Louie was the best neighbor that we could’ve asked for as young first time homeowners. He was such a kind soul, and quickly became a big part of our lives. We’ve missed hearing his old work truck start up and leave early in the morning, or sneaking across the driveway to turn off the headlights for him. Louie and Matt’s dad Dennis had many long conversations slowing down the remodel of our home but we wouldn’t have had it any other way. Our girls loved to sneak over to his house for a piece of chocolate or show off their Halloween costumes. On our daughters first Halloween we took her out to his shop and he didn’t have candy so he gave her a Reese’s cup from his lunch pail and a $5 bill. Louie once lent us a space heater when our furnace went out, and we could always count on him to have a phone number for a repair man. We will sure miss walking with you after getting home from school, or just chatting while the girls sat on the back of your work truck. Say hi to Dennis for us- I’m sure he was waiting for you with an ice cream sundae cone. We love you Louie! Love Matt and Megan Hartmann Family- Mabel, Malone, and Meredith.

We met Louie in Brooklyn sometime between 1966 and 1970. He was an amazing man that seemed to be everywhere and always doing things for customers, friends, neighbors, village organizations and community events. He showed up whenever there was a need. We will never forget seeing him on the road driving his pickup work truck heading out to fix things. He seemed to hold knowledge on everything and was ready to share. He was Mr. Brooklyn. Thanks Louie...until we meet again.

Louie (Big Lou as I’ll remember him) was the best of the best! I’ll treasure my many memories of him from when I was a small child and the entire family welcoming me and my Mom and sisters into his home. I will also treasure the memories I have of him as an adult and going out to fish in Evansville or the Maple Tree on Wednesday’s with my Dad. I always made sure he got chocolate pudding from the salad bar. My heart is heavy and sad for all of you. I know Mary Ann and Mom were waiting to welcome Big Lou.
