MADISON / JANESVILLE - Tom Troia, age 69, of Janesville, passed away on Tuesday, Aug. 8, 2023. He was born on Sept. 28, 1953, in Madison, Wis., the son of August and Edith (Fuller) Troia. Tom graduated from West High School and during his senior year he got his first car, a 1956 Cadillac sedan. He was so proud to have led his graduating class to the Coliseum for their graduation ceremony. He maintained his love of classic cars throughout his life.


Tom attended UW-Madison after high school and went on to dedicating 35-years as a conductor with the Chicago Northwestern Railroad. He had a strong interest in meteorology, was an avid reader of Sci-Fi, and spent hours assembling model cars, airplanes, and ships. But he especially loved the time spent with his daughter, Kersten, going to the Henry Vilas Zoo and the Wingra Lagoon.


Tom is survived by his daughter, Kersten Troia; and his sisters, Kathleen (Alan) McFarland and Nancy Troia. He was preceded in death by his parents; and his brother, Michael Troia.

I do remember Tom’s Caddy. What a ride that thing was! About 6 years after graduating from West High school, I was at a time in my life where I was not going anywhere. Tom was very instrumental in changing all that as he told me to apply for a job at the Milwaukee Road Railroad. That was what turned me around, and ended up working on the railroad for just shy of 21 years, which also helped me get employment with TSA in Milwaukee. For that I’ll always be grateful.
