VERONA - William “Bill” Grover Garrott, age 78, of Verona, passed away on Thursday, July 27, 2023, at Meriter Hospital. He was born on July 20, 1945, in Madison, the son of William and Ruth (Atkins) Garrott.


Bill graduated from West High School in 1963 and then attended UW-Madison. He was united in marriage to Liza Villarubia on May 31, 2007.  


Bill enjoyed his work as a private investigator for over 30 years. He loved golfing, vegetable gardening, reading-especially mysteries and watching western movies. Most of all he enjoyed the time spent with his family.


William is survived by his wife, Liza; daughters, Cianna (Steven Rodriguez) Garrott and Beth (Keith) Browning; grandchildren, Amir Rodriguez, Sophia Rodriguez, Taylor Browning and Tatyana Browning; three great-grandchildren; sisters, Linda Hanson and Patricia (Alan) Hanson; brother, Robert (Jane) Garrott; brothers-in-law, Jim Leslie and Charles (Toni) Krumbein; many nieces and nephews; and close friends, Peter Buckner, Dennis Hegge, Jackson Jaloba and Johnny Friday.


He was preceded in death by his parents, William and Ruth; sister, Barbara Leslie; brother, Thomas Garrott; parents-in-law, Vedasto and Oliva Villarubia; and brothers-in-law, Craig Hanson, and Larry Hansen; Rachele Garrott -Cianna's mother, Otella Creegan - Cianna's Aunt, and Mama Hewitt Vitali- Cianna's grandmother


A celebration of life will be held at GUNDERSON EAST FUNERAL AND CREMATION CARE, 5203 Monona Drive, Madison, from 2 p.m. until 5 p.m. on Friday, Aug. 11, 2023.

On behalf of the Charles Krumbein family, consisting of William Garrott’s brother-in-law Charles, sister-in-law Antonietta, their sons Donato and Christopher, Donato’s wife Danielle and Donato’s son Donato Jr., I would like to offer my condolences to wife Liza Garrott and daughter Cianna Garrott and her family for the loss of William G. Garrott due to his recent passing. I have known William G. Garrott for well over forty-five years as my brother-in-law through his marriage to Antonietta’s sister Rachele, who proceeded him in death in 2011. As a brother-in-law, I have traveled to Europe with him on a couple of occasions. I also enjoyed his company when we attended Milwaukee Brewer games, went to numerous pro golf tournaments together, and also enjoyed going to see Shakespeare plays at APT in Spring Green. All of those occasions will now have to stay locked in memory forever. Also the many family dinners that we all shared. William G. Garrott was a true original, as both a private investigator and a family friend. He will be missed by all of us in the Krumbein family, but most especially by both his wife Liza and daughter Cianna. To them, and to the rest of the Garrott family, I wish to say please accept our heartfelt sympathy on the loss of “the Big G”. There will never be another like him. Charles J. Krumbein

I enjoyed Grover‘s company for the last decade with so many laughs, good meals, adventures, and planting a lot of hostas at the farm! It is always considerate and helpful and loved his family more than anything in the world!! The memories I have of Grover will always be soul positive! Bless Liza and Cianna. Love you all 🤗❤️ JayOtis

I'm so sorry to hear that Gover passed away. I just found out from one of my brothers. He was always a friend of the Schultz family. As a little kid at the YMCA he always treated me so nice. He never changed that through all the years I knew him. He was the first to show me how to box. He took me up to one of the racquetball courts at the Y. I had boxing gloves on, he didn't. Lol! He and all the "old" lifters were the first generation. Grover, Bubba, DiSalvo, etc... . We were the second generation. They were all bigger than a house, and rugged as hell! But, hearts of gold. Thanks for your kindness, and all the great memories. You'll be missed! Thoughts and prayers to his family. Tim Schultz
