Obituary

MADISON - William "Bill" Mabis, age 80, of Madison, passed away on Friday, July 21, 2023, at The Arbors at Oak Park Place. He was born on March 20, 1943, in Madison, the son of Ernest Sr. and Dorothy (Rowlands) Williams.


Bill graduated from Madison East High School and served in the U.S. Coast Guard. He worked as an IT professional for American Family Insurance until retirement. Bill enjoyed watching football, especially the Green Bay Packers and Wisconsin Badgers.


Bill is survived by his brother, Ernest Mabis Jr.; sister-in-law, Jeanine Mabis, a sister, Shirley Smith, two aunts, and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Ernest and Dorothy; sister, Esther Hanson; and very special friend, Mary Becker.


Memorials may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, Help Hospitalized Veterans Inc., Agrace HospiceCare, or the Green Bay Packers. There will be a private burial for family members only at a future date.

Bill was my Mentor and friend at American Family. We worked closely together and his guidance was patient and valuable as my experience grew. Bill had a clever sense of humor and was the kindest, most gentle person. So sad of his passing but so grateful to have known and worked with him for many years.

I worked with Bill for many years at American Family. He was a great guy, with a fantastic sense of humor and an even better work ethic. We worked hard, got our work done, and had great fun at and out of work gatherings. Whenever I think of Bill I can picture when and where he "blessed us" with one of his quips. Sorry to hear Bill passed. I worked with Bill at Amfam. He was great to work with. He was a good man that enjoyed laughter and made others laugh. I know he was missing his friend Mary, so I'm sure they are back together again now...

Bill was a big part of our family for many years. He was always so good to Mary but especially through her illness. He never wavered and was there every step of the way for her. My heart goes out to his family. Rest well Bill. I am sure Mary was there to greet you home. Love always, Sara

Very sorry to hear of Bill’s passing. I worked closely with him for many years at American Family and have very fond memories of those times. He had a great sense of humor, was always upbeat and was always willing to share his work knowledge.
