MADISON - Delmer “Del” Schlueter passed away unexpectedly on February 28, 2026. Del was born on March 21, 1950, in Stoughton, Wis., the son of Marvin and Bertha (Jaggi) Schlueter. He grew up on the family farm outside Cottage Grove.

Del married Linda Turk in 1971. He studied commercial art at Madison Area Technical College while working full-time at WISC-TV. During his 42-year career at "Channel 3” he wore many hats, including film editor, commercial artist, floor director and camera operator.

Del loved fishing and he enjoyed this pastime his whole life. He had a great talent for fixing most anything. He was very creative and inventive and made use of all sorts of odds and ends he saved because "it might come in handy someday." He was a talented artist and enjoyed drawing, painting, and wood carving. He was especially proud to win a blue ribbon at the Texas State Fair for a walking stick he carved. In his retirement years, he loved metal detecting and saved every coin and unique item he dug up. He also had great fun "fishing" for other people’s lost lures and bobbers from the trees along the Yahara River with a long extension pole.

Del is survived by his wife, Linda; children, Matt (Beth) Schlueter of Kimberly and Sara (Don) Elwood of Forney, Texas; grandchildren, Christine, Angela, John and Emily Schlueter; step-granddaughters, Makayla and Hailey Elwood; brothers, William (Shirley) Schlueter and Melroy (Maggie) Schlueter; brothers-in-law, Larry (Julie) Turk and Paul Croissant; stepfather-in-law, Ronald Cook; and nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; his sister and brother-in-law, Wilma and Virgil Schara; Linda's parents, Arnold Turk and Donna Cook; and his sister-in-law, Lisa Croissant.

A funeral service will be held at GUNDERSON EAST FUNERAL AND CREMATION CARE, 5203 Monona Drive, Madison, at 11 a.m. on TUESDAY, March 17, 2026. Friends may greet the family at the funeral home from 9 a.m. until the time of the service on TUESDAY. A private burial will take place at Roselawn Memorial Park.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the National Kidney Foundation (kidney.org), Agrace HospiceCare (agrace.org) or a charity of the donor's choice. Online condolences may be made at www.gundersonfh.com.

My best memories of Del are from my childhood. He was the fun grown up cousin - always knew how to make a kid laugh and would draw for us on-demand. My prayers and deep sympathy for Linda, Matt and Beth, Sara and Don, and all the grandkids who are mourning the loss of a wonderful man!

Linda, Matt, Sara, and family - I'm so sorry for your loss. Del n I made so many lifetime memories during our short time together at WISC. His creative talent was inspirational. And yes, he could fix most anything! We spent countless hours together in a boat, and on the ice, and enjoyed every minute together. He loved everyone and was a friend to all who knew him. It was my honor to be called his friend. Rest in peace my friend ! I'll be joining you soon ! Marv Holewinski
