John Rusch Gustafson

MADISON - John Rusch Gustafson, passed away peacefully on July 12, 2023, in Madison, WI. He was born on April 25, 1955, in Chicago, IL, the son of Edward and Mary Lou (Davis) Gustafson.

After graduating from UW-Madison with a Business degree, John began his career as a Commodity Broker in Chicago. In the early '90s, he moved to California to continue his work as a broker. However, his deep sense of duty and love for his family brought him back to Chicago to care for his elderly father. After fulfilling this responsibility, John chose to return to Madison, a place he dearly loved. He was a man who lived a good life and had a big heart, always willing to extend a helping hand to those in need.

John's interests were as varied as they were numerous. He was an avid traveler, with a yearly trip to Mexico with his family being a highlight of his year. He never hesitated to hop in the car and drive to see his family, no matter the distance. An enthusiastic bicyclist, John once rode across the country, a testament to his adventurous spirit. He was also a voracious reader with an insatiable curiosity about the world. He particularly enjoyed learning about history and often spent his free time engrossed in a book. Dining was another of John's passions, and he loved to try new restaurants. He also cherished the yearly family vacations to Glen Arbor, Michigan, a tradition that brought him immense joy.

John is survived by two brothers, William "Bill" Gustafson and Andrew Gustafson; a sister, Jean Alvarez; two nephews, Michael Gustafson and Daniel (Kristina) Alvarez; a niece, Juliet (Jordan Young) Gustafson; and great-nieces and great-nephews, Kaia and Koby Alvarez and Anthony and Natasha Gustafson. He was preceded in death by his parents.
