Obituary

MOUNT HOREB - Steven C. Mueller, age 78, of Mount Horeb, passed away on Monday, July 27, 2026, surrounded by his loving family. He was born on February 17, 1948, in Madison, the son of Clifford and Grace Mae (Brattlie) Mueller.

Steve graduated from Mount Horeb High School in 1966 and later received his bachelor’s degree in business from UW-Madison. He married Diane (Rieman) Mueller on September 6, 1969, in Wisconsin Rapids. Steve worked in human resources and started his own personnel consulting business. He later worked as a sales representative and obtained his real estate license.

Steve was a sports enthusiast and a huge Badgers, Packers, Brewers and Mount Horeb Vikings fan. He was the loudest cheerleader at his kids’ sporting events. Steve enjoyed fishing trips, reading, dogs and playing euchre and sheepshead. He also enjoyed participating in the family’s fantasy football league.

The family’s cottage on Lake Arrowhead was a special place where many treasured moments were shared, such as boating, fishing, skiing and campfires. After retirement, he and his wife, Diane, took yearly trips to Florida where they met many new friends and made special memories.

Steve was involved in the Mount Horeb community as a member of the Lions Club and singing with the Men’s Firehouse Minstrels. He was also very involved at Evangelical Lutheran Church through the choir, ushering and was a past president of the church council.

Steve is survived by his wife, Diane; two daughters, Kristin (Mark) Sveum and Kim (Andy) Van Offeren; son, Karl (Lindsey) Mueller; seven grandchildren, Jocelyn and Cody Sveum, Jayden and Landen Van Offeren, and Adelynn, Piper and Payton Mueller; sister, Susan (Wayne) Huntington; sister-in-law, Terri Mueller; special nephew, Brett; and other nieces and nephews, cousins and friends.

He was preceded in death by his father, Clifford Mueller; mother, Grace Mae Mueller; father and mother-in-law, Carlton and Selma Rieman; stepmother, Palma Mueller; and brother, Gregory Mueller.

A memorial service will be held at Evangelical Lutheran Church, 315 E. Main St., Mount Horeb, at 11 a.m. on Friday, August 7, 2026, with Pastor Karen Hofstad presiding, followed by a luncheon at the church. Visitation will be held at the church from 9:30 a.m. until the time of the service on Friday. Burial will be held at Mount Horeb Union Cemetery at a later date.

The family wishes to thank the staff of Mount Horeb EMS, SSM Health Hospital and Hospice, Agrace Adult Day Center, Upland Hills Therapy and Julie Ceithammer for their unwavering and compassionate care given to Steve. Memorials may be made to the Mount Horeb Evangelical Lutheran Church.
