Obituary
MADISON - Thomas Franklin "Tom" Green, age 91, of Madison, passed away on Friday, January 24, 2025, at McFarland Villa Assisted Living. He was born on July 4, 1933, in the Town of Bridge Creek, Wis., the son of Ira and Angeline (Miescke) Green.
Tom grew up in the Depression Era without any modern amenities. He graduated from Fall Creek High School (Go Crickets!) and took courses at Eau Claire Normal College before enlisting in the U. S. Army. Tom and his brother, Ben, enlisted in the Army together, with Tom then stationed in post-war Germany. He married Marlene (Craker) Green on June 23, 1959, in Chippewa Falls, Wis.
Tom worked at Ford dealerships in Fall Creek and Tomah, then at Kayser Ford in Madison, before working at the State of Wisconsin DOT for 20 years, providing State Troopers inventory. He retired in 2008. He had a long love of travel and cruising with his wife and his good friends, Bill and Linda Abromovich. Tom camped around the Midwest, enjoying annual visits to the Hodag and Porterfield Festivals, and the Green Family Reunion at Harstad County Park.
Tom was a faithful follower of the Green Bay Packers and the Milwaukee Brewers, and rarely missed a televised game. He treasured his church family at Messiah and enjoyed volunteerism and leadership roles among the congregation. He took pride in his lawn, manicured to golf course standards, and his picture-perfect hand shoveled driveway in winter. He loved his children and grandchildren, and absolutely doted on Marlene, his wife of 65 ½ years. Tom’s easy-going, steadfast manner will be missed by all who were blessed to have known him.
Tom is survived by his wife, Marlene of Madison; daughter, Melissa Green (the late Gerald Green) and her children, Payton and Savannah Green of Beach Park, Ill.; son, Kevin Green of Mount Horeb, Wis.; sister, Shirley (Eugene) Rovang of Fall Creek, Wis.; and a host of nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Bennet Green; and son-in-law, Gerald Green.
A memorial service will be held at MESSIAH LUTHERAN CHURCH, 5202 Cottage Grove Road, Madison, at 11 a.m. on Friday, January 31, 2025, with Pastor Jeff Vanden Heuvel presiding. Visitation will be held at the church from 9:30 a.m. until the time of the service on Friday.
