Obituary
LODI - Clarence D. Thistle, age 69, of Lodi, died unexpectedly on Sunday, December 9, 1990, at his home. He was born on November 4, 1921, in the town of Leeds.
Clarence was a former co-owner and operator of Thistle Oil Company, later known as the Thistle & Brown Oil Company. He was a member of the First Lutheran Church, the Lodi Masonic Lodge where he was a Past Worshipful Master, a life member and past president of the Optimist Club of Lodi and was well-known as a raiser of black popcorn.
Clarence is survived by his wife, the former Clarice Thompson; five children, Phyllis (Russell) Haupt of Arlington, C. Donald (Jody) Thistle of Lodi, Barbara (John) Hook of Oregon, Linda Joiner of Lodi, and Karla (John) Larabee of Lodi; his mother, Viola “Dolly” Thistle of Lodi; a brother, Robert Thistle of Laguna Beach, California; a sister, Dorothy (Cletus) Munz of Lodi; a sister-in-law, Helen Thistle of Merrill, Wisconsin; and 16 grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his father, Levi; and two brothers, Lester and Glenn.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m., on Wednesday, December 12, at FIRST LUTHERAN CHURCH in Lodi with Reverend Kenneth Schaub officiating. Interment will be in the County Line Cemetery. Friends may call from 5 p.m. until 8 p.m. on Tuesday, at the HAMRE FUNERAL HOME, in Lodi, where there will be a Public Masonic Service at 7:30 p.m. God’s answers are not always the answers we want to hear.
