I did not know Ronald Ernst Doersch but as I read through the obituaries I saw this man's and for the first time in my life I saw a man with the same middle name. And, there were other connections. He was married to Caroline and my wife was Carolyn. We were both married in 1957, he was married on my wife's birthday, July 13, and we were both students at the time. We both went to UW-Madison and both had B.S. and M.S. degrees only in different subjects. And, Ronald earned a Ph.D. while I went to Seminary to become a Lutheran pastor. We also had four children, some who stayed in Wisconsin and others who went elsewhere. Ronald sounds like a outstanding man. I was named after my mother's father, a German missionary to the new world.

Ron was a great mentor for me growing up. He and I would often meet up for breakfast or brunch after church. Our favorite spot was the Hubbard avenue diner. We would talk about our lives and he would pass on his advice for me for my life. I would often call him my “pretend grandpa”. I will forever be thankful for getting the chance to have Ron in my life.

Deepest sympathy to all of you. Ron was a wonderful guy. We got to know him through MCC as he, my Dad (Larry Landgraf) and Don Strang among others would stay for coffee after church. We so enjoyed listening to these wise old guys talk and laugh. Later he and Carrie moved into Cardinal View where Dad is. It meant so much to Dad to have a friendly face join him there. I also enjoyed visiting with Ron as he was often outside when I came or left. Although he was going through a lot at the time, he never failed to ask after Dad. May your family have peace and rest in the knowledge of his life, well lived. 🙏💜

Ron was the Search Committee Chair when I was hired as an extension agronomist at the University of Wisconsin in 1982 and his office was next to mine. His kindly guidance and encouragement from his experience in Wisconsin as a state-wide extension agronomist was such a blessing.
