Joanne Sophie Sutherland

Jo was a huge part of our lives here at BrightStar Senior Living of Waunakee. We miss her tremendously, but are happy she's no longer suffering. Her family and friends are forever in our prayers.

Joanne was Ms Larson when she was my 1st grade teacher at Hawthorne. I visited her and her classes at Lowell over the years, always happy to visit. She will be missed by those whose lives she touched.

“Mrs. Sutherland” will always have a special place in my heart. She was my first-grade teacher (65-66) at Hawthorne School and was the most beautiful person I had ever met—both inside and out. I remember how gently she dealt with a very difficult student in my class and even at that young age, her patience impressed me. The next year I transferred to a different school, but I often returned after school to visit Mrs. Sutherland who always made time for a former student. She was my inspiration to become an elementary school teacher. Her gentle caring ways have surely touched many lives.
