Shirley A. Dean

MADISON - Shirley Ann Dean (nee Van Horn), age 89, formerly of Clarkston, Mich., passed away peacefully on Thursday, June 8, 2023, surrounded by love, wrapped in prayer. She was born Nov. 12, 1933, in Pontiac, Mich., to Frank and Mary (nee Krey) Van Horn.  Shirley was preceded in death by both parents and her siblings:  Morris, Helen, Marvin and Rosemary.

She was the loving wife of the late Gordon Dean for 59 years; beloved Mama of Patti (Blair) Warren, Barb (Stewart) Nutter and Larry (Brenda) Dean; cherished Gramma of Christie (Ryan), Mary (Bill), Ben (Tovah), Adam, Rachel (Nate) and Brian (Brianna); and Great-Gramma of Cecilia, Reese, Menzie, Noa, Brayden, Braxson, Ava and Oliver.

Shirley was a graduate of Pontiac Senior High School, class of 1951. She worked and retired as a food service assistant for Waterford Community Schools. She loved singing, reading, puzzles, birds, history and art. She crocheted and embroidered beautifully, was an old movie buff and had a wild sense of humor.

Shirley will be interred with Gordon at Great Lakes National Cemetery (Section CC 14 Row D Site 22), Holly, Mich.
