STOUGHTON - Madeline Ann Engelhart, age 97, of Stoughton, passed away on Thursday, April 3, 2025, at Skaalen Nursing and Rehab. She was born on September 14, 1927, in Montello, Wis., the daughter of Peter and Mary (Conti) Nickolai.
Madeline grew up in Montello, Wis., and was a graduate of Montello High School. On April 28, 1947, she married Donald G Engelhart at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Montello, Wis.
In addition to raising her family, Madeline enjoyed working as a waitress at The Cathay House, Poole’s Northgate and The Pigs Ear in Madison, Wis. In her free time, she enjoyed cooking, tatting, sewing, knitting, crocheting, fishing and working on puzzles. She was a member of Saint Olaf Catholic Church in DeForest, Wis.
Madeline is survived by children, Donald (Bob) Engelhart, Jo Ann Elliott, Linda (Charlie Zradicka) Haferman, Debra (Randy) Denman and Lisa Fix (and her dear friend, Dana); son-in-law, Herb Meier; grandchildren, Brian Meier, Kim Meier, Deana (Tim) Porter, Jason Meier, Adam Forler, Matt (Misha) Forler, Aaron Haferman, Grahm Haferman, Marshal Haferman, Janette (Tracy) Kopfhamer, Heather (Bryan) Lau, Beth Engelhart, Jenny Engelhart, Jason Engelhart and Alisha (Eric Bugiyne) Fix; great-grandchildren, Abby, Logan, Hunter, Paige, Abigail, Tyler and Jordan; and great-great-grandchild, Greyson. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Donald G. Engelhart; daughter, Barbara Meier; son, Tom Engelhart; sisters, Agnes Connors and Margaret Fernholz; brothers, Father Clarence Nickolai and Father Arthur Nickolai; and son-in-law, Charlie Elliott.
A funeral service will be held at GUNDERSON EAST FUNERAL AND CREMATION CARE, 5203 Monona Drive, Madison, at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, April 12, 2025, with Deacon Jack Alexander presiding. The rosary will be recited at 10:10 a.m. Burial will take place at Highland Memory Gardens. Visitation will be held at the funeral home from 9 a.m. until the time of the service on Saturday.
The family would like to thank the caregivers and staff at Skaalan Nursing and Rehabilitation, Stoughton, Wis., and Agrace Hospice Care, for the patience, love and care shown to Madeline and her family over the last several years.
