Obituary
Madison - Jennifer Michelle Moffett, age 42, of Madison, passed away unexpectedly on Monday, May 22, 2023, after losing her ongoing battle with addiction. She was born on Nov. 9, 1980, in Jacksonville, Fla., the daughter of John and Dawn Capadona, and was later adopted along with her younger sister, Katie, into the loving family of David Moffett and Penny Duane.
Throughout her life, Michelle struggled with the many difficulties associated with mental illness and addiction. Despite receiving lots of help and care from family, friends, teachers, and doctors, these challenges proved too much. Heroin and other drugs gave her a false sense of normality, acceptance, and numbed her pain. She did not see that heroin was tearing her life apart, driving a deep wedge between her and positive relationships with family and friends, and that it would eventually take her life just two short years after it took the life of her 20-year-old daughter, Lilianna.
Although Michelle’s death is devastating for her friends and family, by sharing the truth, we hope that her death wasn’t in vain and other families may be spared from experiencing this unspeakable pain and grief.
Michelle loved her kids, family, and friends and enjoyed spending time with them. We will cherish the happy moments, the laughter, and the wonderful memories that so many people made with her throughout her life. We will also grieve for the years that we won’t get to spend with her making new memories, the unspoken words we should have told her, and for all the events she will miss. Michelle will forever be loved and missed by all of us and held closely in our hearts.
Michelle is survived by her sons, Dylan Moffett and Memphis Brouillet; daughter, Aspen Gardner; a grandson, Amari; father, David Moffett; sisters, Katie Moffett and Sarah E. (Kyla) Moffett-Hills; nephews, Jacob Moffett, Jayden Hoagland and Archer Moffett-Hills; and former husband, Steven Brouillet; along with many other family members and friends. She was preceded in death by her mother, Penny Duane; her birthparents, John and Dawn Capadona; daughter, Lilianna Kolb; cousin, Melissa Duane; baby Moffett-Hills; and other extended family members.
While no funeral service is currently scheduled, a celebration of life ceremony will be announced at a future date. In lieu of flowers, please consider donating to Journey Mental Health, Tellurian Behavioral Health, or ARC Community Services, in her honor.
