We have many great memories of John from the Piper/Hilltop days: one of our family's best friends! Rest in Peace, John. You'll always be remembered!

John and I were best of buds growing up two doors apart on Piper Drive and Hilltop Drive. We spent a lot of time together, whether watching Badger football practices at Camp Randall; getting season tickets for $20 in the late 1960s for a nearly empty stadium; going to the Sun Prairie Corn Festival and Dane County Fair; seeing my first concert (Sha Na Na) at the Coliseum; riding our bikes to Fanny Farmer at Westgate to buy booze candy, then eating it all and getting the runs because of all the artificial sugar; completing the 26-mile Walk for Development; lazing away summer days at Piper Park lying on top of the green shack or playing "smear" with the babysitter "Cherry Bird"; playing golf at Vitense Golfland; bowling at Schwoegler's . . . You'll always be remembered, John. Rest in Peace, King Louie. Bruce Owens
