Edward Mandt Olson Jr.

STOUGHTON - Edward Mandt Olson Jr., age 92, of Stoughton, passed away on Monday, Oct. 16, 2023, at Skaalen Nursing and Rehabilitation. He was born on Sept. 2, 1931, in Madison, the son of Edward and Clarice (Hanson) Olson.

Edward graduated from Madison East High School in 1949 and served in the U.S. Army. He was united in marriage to Lois Schantz in 1953. Edward was a hard worker, at Oscar Mayer for 33 years and then at Prairie Lanes for 14 years. He was a Union Steward at Oscar Mayer and was also a Past President of FFA.

In his earlier days, Edward played first base where he was the youngest player on the home talent league baseball team. His love of sports continued throughout his life, as he was an avid Packers and Brewers fan. He enjoyed watching the games on his giant TV. Fishing was his favorite pastime, he spent countless hours out on Lake Kegonsa and Mud Lake over the years. His very favorite thing was hosting the many, many family and friends fish fries throughout his life. He also enjoyed bowling and taking bus trips with Lois. He was a master joke teller, bringing a smile and laughter to all who knew him.

Edward is survived by his daughter, Lisa (Fred Ladwig) Olson; sons, Tom (Debbie Branson) Olson and Timothy Olson; grandchildren, Tyler Olson, Christine (Matt) Edgren and Christopher Rolli; great-grandchildren, Emma Edgren and Drew Edgren; and sister, Karen Olson. He was preceded in death by his wife, Lois; parents, Edward and Clarice; brothers, Robert "Bo" Olson and Ronald "Ronnie" Olson; brother-in-law, Joey Clarke; and parents-in-law, Ralph and Florence Schantz.

A funeral service will be held at SKAALEN HOME, 400 N. Morris St., Stoughton, at 11 a.m. on Friday, Nov. 3, 2023. Visitation will be held at Skaalen Home from 10 a.m. until the time of the service on Friday.
