Obituary
Always a smile, instead of a frown, always a hand when one is down.
Always true, thoughtful, and kind, wonderful memories she left behind.
Hers was a life full of appreciation and joy. She was grateful for even the simplest of things. She had a ready smile, a wonderful sense of humor and was genuinely happy for her life and for all the happiness her family and friends enjoyed. Phyllis passed away unexpectedly on the morning of May 13, 2023, at the age of 62.
Phyllis was the youngest of nine children, graduating from Madison East High School in 1978. She was a member of the Madison Drum and Bugle Corps, a World Class Junior competitive drum and bugle organization founded in 1938. She loved playing the drums and traveling around the United States giving performances.
Notably, she worked at Oscar Mayer’s for 15 years and most recently for 17 years in the Transportation Department at the University of Wisconsin-Madison. She made many friends at work and kept in touch with many throughout the years.
Phyllis embraced the excitement of life. She loved going to the Wisconsin Dells where she had great fun and made great memories with close friends. And she loved cruising the Caribbean Islands with close friends, again having great fun and making great memories. She will miss her friends and their travels together but would be so grateful for having had these great experiences.
She is preceded in death by her parents, George, and Doris Thompson; sister, Valerie Priebe; and brothers, Dennis Thompson and Dee Thompson (Theresa). She is survived by five siblings, Carla Leskinen (Shorty), Thomas Thompson, Georgia Thompson, Lizabeth Parmer and Laurence Thompson. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
Celebrating and Honoring Phyllis’ Life, we know she is not gone. She is in our hearts and walks beside us every day. Online condolences may be made at www.gundersonfh.com.
