Stephen J Frank

MCFARLAND - Stephen Joseph Frank, age 67, passed away peacefully at his home on Thursday, December 14, 2023, as a result of a glioblastoma. He was born on July 18, 1956, in Janesville, Wis., the son of Theodore and Imogene “Jean” (Fischer) Frank.

Stephen graduated from Queen of Apostles High School in 1974, where he played football and obtained the nickname “Paco.” He became infamous for spray painting that name on a large rock at school.  Steve remained friends with many of his classmates throughout the years.

He married Cynthia "Cindy" Niemann on September 22, 1979, at St. Peter Catholic Church in Madison and together they had two children, Angela and Brandon.  He always enjoyed spending time with his family and the grandkids who lovingly call him by his other nickname, “Bubba.”   

Stephen worked for the Streets and Engineering Department in the City of Madison before retiring in January 2019. He was known for his mischievous smile and fun sense of humor. He loved a good game of euchre or cribbage, never passed on an opportunity to party, and lived life to the fullest. In his free time, he made many stained-glass pieces for their home and enjoyed spending time with family and friends.  He loved being outdoors, hunting, fishing, camping, and taking road trips on his Harley.  Steve and Cindy enjoyed many travel adventures with special friends Ed and Vicky Molter.    

We appreciate the care he received over the last three years from the doctors and nurses at UW Hospital, especially Dr. Patrick Grogan.  Steve’s final act of bravery involved donating his brain to the UW Carbone Cancer Center so they can collect critical information that could lead to the next generation of treating this disease. We also appreciate the support received from Agrace Hospice.

Stephen is survived by his wife of 44 years, Cindy; daughter, Angela (Robert) Poster; son, Brandon (Danielle) Frank; grandsons, Bennett Poster, Grant Poster, Nyle Poster and Miles Frank; granddaughter, Mae Poster; father, Theodore Frank; brothers, Kerry Frank, Doug (Cindy) Frank and Craig (Brenda) Frank; sister, Kristi (Sue Howell) Frank; sisters-in-law, Bonnie (John) Kees, Nancy (Ron) Rapp, Jane (Dave ) Hosking and Liz (Tim) Haines; and brothers-in-law, Jack (Corinne) Niemann and Jim (Jessica) Niemann, numerous cousins, nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his mother, Imogene Frank; and in-laws, Bob and Coletta Niemann.

A Celebration of Life will be held at LEWIS PARK SHELTER, 5012 Highland Drive, McFarland, from 12 noon until 4 p.m. on Saturday, May 18, 2024. Please join us to remember the love he lived full of fun, adventure and a bit of mischief.  We will have plenty of food and beverages and look forward to seeing all of our family and friends.
