Obituary

MOUNT HOREB - Sandra K. (Smith) Ellarson, aged 71, entered into eternal rest, joining her beloved husband, Scott Ellarson, on Sept. 15, 2024, in Melbourne, Fla., with her sisters, Leanna and Pamela, by her side.

Sandy was born on Sept. 30, 1952, in Belvidere, Ill., to Gerald C. Smith and Beatrice (Smith) Hemmingsen. Sandy graduated from Belvidere High School in 1971 and graduated cum laude with an Associate of Business from Orlando College in 1985. Sandy enjoyed many years living in Florida with her extended family and moved to Madison, Wis., in the mid ‘90s where she met and married the love of her life, Scott. Sandy was employed as an Accountant and later Executive Legal Assistant for Country Kitchen for 21 years.

Sandy and Scott were avid outdoor enthusiasts enjoying hunting, fishing, caring for animals, and gardening. They especially loved spending time on the Ellarson family farm in Barneveld, Wis., and at their cabin on the Flambeau River. Sandy was a member of the Madison area Master Gardeners Association, the Madison Herb Society and the University of Wisconsin’s Master Gardener volunteer program. She was a talented and creative photographer of nature and was published in the Leopold Outlook, a publication of the Aldo Leopold Foundation dedicated to conservation, land stewardship and safeguarding our natural community. She was also an active member of the Springdale Lutheran Church in Mount Horeb, Wis.

Sandy was known for her beautiful smile, sense of humor, kindness, generosity, and was a loyal friend to many. She loved animals and raised ducks, geese, chickens, goats and enjoyed crafting and genealogy as hobbies. In her last years, she especially cherished her two faithful companions, her dogs, Bailey and Ginger.

Sandy is survived by her sisters, Leanna Smith Farrell and Pamela J. Smith; brother-in-law, Bruce Ellarson (Chris); stepsons, Tory, Riley and Brady Ellarson; many beloved cousins, nieces, nephews, and close friends. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Scott Ellarson; brother, Jeffrey M. Smith; and brother-in-law, John E. Farrell.

A gathering will be held at Springdale Lutheran Church, 2752 Town Hall Road, Mount Horeb, at 10:30 a.m., with a service at 11 a.m., on Saturday, Oct. 26, 2024.

I worked with Sandy for 10 years at Country Kitchen corporate office. We stayed in touch through the years. During a medical emergency of another employee Sandy and Jeff took turns doing CPR until the paramedics arrived. She was a great lady and was not afraid to jump in and help when someone needed help. She will be missed.❤️
