Obituary
MIDDLETON -Stanley Steven Angell, age 96, passed away peacefully at his home on May 20, 2026, surrounded by the comfort of a life richly and fully lived.
Throughout his life, Stanley was known for his caring heart, strong sense of duty, and dedication to helping others. He found great purpose in serving his family, supporting friends and neighbors, mentoring students and educators, and volunteering in his community. His life was a reflection of generosity, leadership, and deep compassion.
Stanley was born on September 3, 1929, in Boscobel, Wisconsin to Ross and Ceroan (Gile) Angell. He was preceded in death by his parents; his brothers, Roger, Robert, and Eugene; and his son, Steven Angell.
Stanley graduated from Ithaca High School in 1948 before attending Richland County Normal School in 1950. He earned his bachelor’s degree in elementary education from University of Wisconsin-Whitewater in 1959 and later completed his master’s degree at University of Wisconsin-Madison in 1963, further preparing him for a distinguished career in educational leadership.
His lifelong dedication to education began teaching in one-room rural schools from 1950 to 1953. He then proudly served his country in the United States Army from 1953 to 1955, stationed at Fort Leonard Wood.
Following his military service, Stanley devoted nearly four decades to Wisconsin schools and students. He served as a teacher and principal at Morgan School in Beloit from 1955 to 1961, principal at Beloit Turner School from 1961 to 1964, principal at Cushing School in Delafield from 1964 to 1967, and concluded his remarkable career as principal of Kromrey Middle School in Middleton from 1967 until his retirement in 1989.
Stanley was deeply committed to fairness and opportunity for all students. During his time at Kromrey, he was instrumental in helping establish equal athletic opportunities for girls and boys, including the development of girls’ athletics programs long before such efforts became commonplace.
He was also an active member of the Association of Wisconsin School Administrators from 1968 to 1989, serving on the Board of Directors and later as president from 1981 to 1982. In recognition of his leadership and service to education, he received the organization’s Distinguished Service Award on October 24, 1985.
Beyond his professional accomplishments, Stanley believed deeply in serving his community. He volunteered with Sertoma, Middleton Outreach Ministry, and the Bagley Volunteer Fire Department. His leadership spirit and enthusiasm for community life even led to his being honored as Grand Marshal of the Bagley Fourth of July Parade - a role perfectly suited to someone who loved being involved and helping wherever he could.
Stanley embraced life wholeheartedly and found great joy in the outdoors through fishing, hunting, and gardening. During retirement, he especially enjoyed exploring Wisconsin and Florida with his beloved black Labrador retriever, Brittany. He and his wife, Lorna, also cherished traveling across the United States with dear friends, creating many treasured memories together.
After retirement, Stanley and Lorna made their home in Wyalusing, surrounded by the beauty and tranquility of the Mississippi River bluffs.
Stanley first married Phyllis Evans, and they had four children together. On February 28, 1970, he married Lorna Milazzo, beginning a loving blended family that added two daughters to his life.
He is survived by his wife, Lorna Angell; his children Sandra (Bruce) Pearson, Lisa (Doug Olson) Paap, Toni (Tom) Pulvermacher, Stewart (Julee) Angell, and Shelly (Michael) Daugherty; 13 grandchildren; 9 great-grandchildren; and many beloved nieces and nephews.
The family extends heartfelt gratitude to the caring staff at Cardinal View Senior Living and Brighton Hospice for their compassionate and loving care.
