Obituary
MADISON - Judith P. “Judy” Tweed Taylor, age 84, died on April 27, 2023, in Madison, Wis. She was born in Philadelphia, Pa., on July 5, 1938, and attended Media High School. She later graduated from West Chester College with a degree in Elementary Education. After moving to Madison in 1961, she taught in Madison schools until 1997.
She met her husband, Donald A. Taylor, and they were married in Monona, Wis., on June 21, 1969. They lived in Monona for 32 years, Fitchburg for 19 years, then moved to the retirement community of Prairie Point at Attic Angels in July 2018.
Judy spent many years as a volunteer for Attic Angels, the Historic Blooming Grove Historical Society, Alpha Delta Kappa, and several other organizations in Wisconsin and Florida. She was a big supporter of Madison South Rotary and was a Paul Harris fellow, twice. Judy loved to travel and upon retirement, told Don, “I want to put my big toe on every continent.” She started that project in September 1997 with a trip to Jordan and Egypt, and finished with the final goal of Antarctica in 2004.
Judy’s special gift was that everyone who had the pleasure of meeting her felt included and welcomed. She was endlessly generous and genuinely cared about all the people that came into her life. To know her was to love her and be loved by her. Judy was a generous supporter of American Family Children’s Hospital because several of her students were treated there with excellent results.
We want to thank the incredible staff at St. Mary’s Care Center for making this last part of her life’s journey fun and meaningful. Their passion and kindness go well beyond what could have been hoped for. She was truly cared for both physically and emotionally.
Her son, Larry J. Martin, and his wife, Victoria, reside in Madison and Florida. Her granddaughter, Kirstin Martin (Kyle Douglass) lives in Switzerland. Her brother, John (Marty) Tweed; sister, Cecile (Steve) Ferrazzanno; and several nieces and nephews will miss her as well.
A celebration of life will be held at GUNDERSON EAST FUNERAL AND CREMATION CARE, 5203 Monona Drive, Madison, on Tuesday, May 2, 2023, from 1 p.m. until 3 p.m. Online condolences may be made at www.gundersonfh.com.
