Obituary

BROOKLYN / OREGON/ LAKE MILLS - Mark David Putnam, age 55, passed away on April 21, 2023, after a courageous battle with cancer, with his family at his side.

Mark was born on Nov. 26, 1967, to Donald and Joyce (Van Veghel) Putnam.  He grew up in Brooklyn, Wis., and had many fun adventures riding bikes and fishing whenever he could.  Mark graduated from Oregon High School in 1986. He continued his education in Engineering, obtaining his associate degree in Electronics from MATC (1989) and both his Bachelor’s Degree (1994) and Master's Degree (2005) from the UW-Madison in Engineering.  Mark was the Director of Product Engineering for American Superconductors and was a part of their team for over 20 years.

Mark met the love of his life, his high school sweetheart, Cathy Fluckiger (his “honey” his “pooh”), in 1986. They were married in 1991 and enjoyed 37 years together. Mark and Cathy made it a tradition to try to go on trips to celebrate their big anniversaries, his favorite was their adventure to Ireland for their 25th anniversary.

They were blessed with two boys, Colin and Bryan. They enjoyed many family vacations to Disneyland, Disneyworld, Cancun and Dominican Republic.   Mark was a dedicated father and was involved in all activities the boys were involved with including baseball, soccer and scouts.

Mark absolutely loved coaching youth sports. He coached youth baseball and soccer for many years and had a big impact on so many including other coaches and the kids he coached. Mark enjoyed spending time with family and friends playing cards, going to concerts, traveling, and watching the Brewers. He especially loved spending time at their lake house, reading, working on remodeling projects but mainly being able to go out on the lake fishing.

Mark will be forever missed by his wife and best friend, Cathy; sons, Colin Putnam (Jordyn Workowski) and Bryan Putnam (Mariah Hoffman); sisters, Faith Putnam, Lynn (Carey) Perschke and Jayne (Mike) Wade; step-brother, Scott (Kim) Murkve; parents-in-law, Bob and Amber Fluckiger; brother-in-law, David Fluckiger; nieces and nephews, Serena (Adam) Perschke-Ely, Stirling (Andy) Mitchell, Hailee Wade, Kiley (Joe Conant) Fluckiger and Kaden Fluckiger; great-niece and nephew, J.D. and Maggie Mae; and loyal canine companion, Willow. He was preceded in death by his father, Donald Putnam; mother, Joyce Murkve; and step-father, Robert Murkve.

A celebration of Mark’s life will be held at GUNDERSON OREGON FUNERAL AND CREMATION CARE, 1150 Park St., Oregon, at 1 p.m. on Saturday, April 29, 2023. A visitation will be held at the funeral home from 10 a.m. until the time of the service on Saturday. Family and friends are encouraged to wear their favorite Brewers gear.

Dear Cathy, Colin and Bryan, I’ve been shocked by the news Mark passed away. My Sincere condolances to you all. I am very sorry for your loss. It’s been more than 15 years back that I came to Oregon to coach several soccer teams. As a young boy it was a challenge to adjust. Mark however was one of the guys that made me feel like home. Always very involved. As a friend and a team manager. In my memories I remember Mark as a great man. A man who was a wonderful dad and very positive man for all the talented soccer players on both his son’s soccer team. Take care.., Bote Talsma The Netherlands
