Obituary

MADISON - Sophia Beusse, age 73, of Madison, passed away on Monday, April 10, 2023, at St. Mary's Hospital. She was born on Oct. 17, 1949, in New York City, N.Y., the daughter of Felix and Herminia (Gonzalez) Caraballo.


Sophia graduated from Manhattan Central Commercial High School, New York City in 1967. She was united in marriage to Carlton Beusse on April 15, 1977. Sophia worked for Travelers Insurance in policy redemption before transitioning to focusing on raising her children. She then had a second career with Dorel Dental in Mequon, Wis., for many years until her retirement in 2003.


Sophia was a faithful member of St. Eugene Catholic Church in Fox Point, Wis., and was passionate about her family. She was a room mother at Donges Bay Elementary School in Mequon. She enjoyed playing scrabble and solving all kinds of word puzzles, including Jumble and Crypto Quip.


Sophia is survived by her husband, Carlton; daughter, Erika (Nick) Meyer; son, Wesley (Nina Gutmanis) Beusse; grandchildren, Nathan and Emma Meyer; brothers, Orlando Caraballo and Felix “J.R.” (Awilda) Caraballo; sisters, Mercedes (Billy) Atiles, Elia Figueroa, Guadalupe "Lupe" Aponte and Yolanda Caraballo; and sisters-in-law, Rudesinda Caraballo and Christena Beusse. She was preceded in death by her sisters, Herminia "Nana" Caraballo and Auria Olivo; brother, Benito Caraballo; sister-in-law, Noemi Caraballo; and brother-in-law, James Beusse.

There are so many memories I will hold dear to my heart my dear cousin. We had so much fun growing up as kids. I remember the many times, you, Lupe and myself would spend time together. Whether it was at a house party, the underground clubs we would go to or just hang out. I am so very grateful to had seen you last year when you, Carl and Lupe stopped by to see J.R., your brother and family. No way was I going to miss your visit after not seeing one another for 53 years when I left for the service. Thanks to your hubby for bringing us together. A big thanks to Yvette, your niece for giving me the heads up. Despite the 53 year drought, we stayed in touch from time to time, whether by phone or text. We will all miss you Sophie.
