Obituary

VERONA - Mary Jane Stauffacher, age 72, of Verona, passed away on Wednesday, April 12, 2023. She was born on July 30, 1950, in Lancaster, Wis., the daughter of Alvin and Marie (Wankerl) Vogt.


Mary graduated from Baraboo High School in 1968 and from Madison Area Technical College in 1971.  She married Richard K. “Rick” Stauffacher on June 9, 1979, at Devils Lake State Park.  Mary loved being a mother and enjoyed taking care of her only child, Richard D. “Ricky” Stauffacher and the neighborhood kids. Her chocolate chip pancakes were a favorite breakfast meal she enjoyed making for Ricky and his friends.  She managed the house with love and expertise while supporting her husband Rick’s career in orthodontics.


Mary was a professional shopper, always seeking out all the best bargains. She enjoyed collecting Precious Moments figurines and handmade bud vases.  Mary had a green thumb and was very proud of her flower gardens. She enjoyed going out to eat, reading magazines, watching movies, Wheel of Fortune, Jeopardy, reality tv competitions, and all Wisconsin team sports. She adored her two canine companions Zipper and Roxy, who preceded her in death.


Mary is survived by her husband, Rick; son, Ricky (Meghan Roed); four sisters, Colette (John) Bunde, Barbara (John) Schroeder, Joanne (Gary) Andersen and Karen Vogt; brother, James Vogt; sister-in-law, Sharon Vogt; grandchild, Marit Roed; and numerous cousins and nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, Alvin and Marie; and brother, Gerald Vogt.

A funeral service will be held at GUNDERSON FITCHBURG FUNERAL AND CREMATION CARE, 2950 Chapel Valley Road, Fitchburg, at 12 noon on Friday, April 21, 2023. Family and friends who wish to view the services via LIVE STREAM may visit Mary’s obituary page at www.gundersonfh.com and click on the Live Webcast link at 12 noon on Friday. A visitation will be held at the funeral home from 10 a.m. until the time of the service on Friday.

I loved my Aunt Mary’s laugh- when she and the Vogt sisters got together, their laughter was so loud and fun! You just had to laugh with them then. You will be missed, Aunt Mary. You are with my Dad now in Heaven.

My condolences to Dr. Rick, Ricky and all siblings and family. Memories of the Vogt family are very special. Aunt Marie gave me a box of Mary Jane’s sweaters when I was in high school.
