Mary Alice Pringle

MONONA- Mary McGuire Pringle, age 90, of Monona, Wis. passed away on Wednesday, April 5, 2023. Mary was born and raised in Highland, Wis., to Alphonse and Loyola as part of a close-knit family that encouraged reading, music and civic engagement. She graduated from the University of Wisconsin-Platteville and went to California to teach. It was a wonderful time. She met her future husband, Sid, made many life-long friends, and saw many of the jazz and big-band legends. As the wife of a U.S. Air Force pilot, Mary lived in many places while raising their children together (doing much of that heavy lifting). She was then able to come home to Wisconsin, where she and Sid spent over 40 years in their house on Lake Monona. This also brought her back to her wonderful sisters and their families.

Mary made friends everywhere - college, all the Air Force postings, Oscar Mayer, AAUW, bridge groups, Olbrich Gardens, Aqua Zumba… She was able to go to the Indy 500, travel to many countries (especially her beloved Ireland) and ride a Harley when she was well into her 80s. She regularly worked the voting polls, was a U.S. Census taker, and loved and valued libraries. She was a devoted member of the Catholic Church.

She had 61 happy years with Sid and loved her kids and grandkids unconditionally. She was kind-hearted, thoughtful and caring; and had a warm and vibrant laugh and smile up to her last breath.

She passed away peacefully at home. Heartfelt thanks to Nicole (who also saw Sid through his last days) and Peg for such loving, thoughtful hospice care (Agrace).

Mary is survived by her daughter, Jody (Jim Werlein) Pringle; sons, Greg (late wife, Joy) Pringle, Jeff (Dardie) Pringle and Patrick (Susie) Pringle; grandchildren, Naomi, Cole, Ella, Sydney and Ryan; sisters, Maureen (Don) Ayer and Margaret Blott; sister-in-law, Beverly (Jim) Ramberg; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Sid Pringle; sister, Helen (Harold) Polzer; brother, Michael McGuire; and brother-in-law, Ray Blott.

A short graveside memorial service will be held at ROSELAWN MEMORIAL PARK, 401 Femrite Drive, Monona, at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, April 11, 2023. An informal gathering to celebrate Mary and share stories will be held late May / June. Please contact pringlein@gmail.com if interested or for further details.
