Obituary

MADISON - Doris J. Hanson, age 89, passed away from natural causes on Sunday, April 9, 2023, at her home in the Town of Westport surrounded by her loving family. She was born on April 3, 1934, in Ames, Iowa, the daughter of William and Anna (Copp) Rye.

Doris graduated from Owatonna High in 1952 and attended college in the Twin Cities area for Stenography and Secretarial Studies. For many years Doris worked for the Dane County Veterans Service and was proud of her work.

Doris was the mother of 10 children and lived a very full life. She often enjoyed crafting and sewing, baking, volunteering, and spending time with her family.

Doris is survived by her 10 children, Peter A. Hanson (Debra Marty), Mark A. (Vicki) Hanson, Lynn A. Latko, Barb R. (Paul) Wilson, Eric K. Hanson, Kim L. Hanson, Joanne A. (Michael) Saunders, Susan M. Lawrenz, Warren J. (Jill) Hanson and Cheryl A. (Jay) Davis; and many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; sister, Darlene Ann (Rye) Hanson; brother-in-law, Arthur Carrol Hanson; brother, William Marcus Rye; sons-in-law, Paul Lawrenz and Ron Latko; nephews, Dana Paul Hanson and Arthur Stephen Hanson; and grandchildren, Elizabeth and Derek Hanson.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at ST. PETER CATHOLIC CHURCH, 5001 N. Sherman Ave., Madison, at 11 a.m. on Friday, April 14, 2023, with Father Gabriel Lopez-Betanzos presiding. Visitation will be at the church from 10 a.m. until the time of the Mass on Friday. Burial will take place at Verona Cemetery in Verona. Online condolences may be made at www.gundersonfh.com.

I just found this page as I was searching for Doris. Marie Siebers and Doris were good friends when we were kids. Our families hung out together all the time, and Peter & I were Classmates at St. Dennis parochial school. Marie and Doris had babies together while we all ran around having fun. We laughed about how if my Mom was pregnant, Doris would be soon! Peter is oldest, I was 2nd oldest of our 7 kids. We moved to the east coast in '67, and Doris & Marie wrote letters for years! When I moved here (NC) to caregive both parents in 2006, I found a letter and searched for ya'll, but I didn't have enough info. Last nite, Mom was thinking of Doris, and I asked if she'd ever known a maiden name. She has dementia, but said "I think it's Frye!?". Close enough. My Dad passed in 2012. Mom just turned 96! She's doing well for her age. We are so sorry and send deepest sympathies to your entire Family. Your crew were great friends to us as kids - Sandy, Terry, Joe, Mike, Kathy, Jen, Peggy.
