Obituary
MADISON - Steven Lee Drenoske passed away peacefully on March 27, 2024, in his home, surrounded by his wife, sons, and dog. This was his childhood home, built by his grandfather, and the home he raised his own family in.
Steve was diagnosed with terminal melanoma last year; doctors expected him to live for only a few more months. But he fought incredibly hard and gave his family an amazing year with him they did not think was possible. They are forever grateful for his strength and determination to live. During this time holidays were cherished, including the 37th wedding anniversary with his wife and soulmate, Linda.
Steve was a caring and gentle man, a loving father, spouse and brother. He was always happy to help, whether fixing someone's car, shoveling a neighbor's driveway, or mowing their lawn. Steve loved tinkering in the garage or under the hood of a car in the driveway. He was a “car guy” his entire life. He bought not one but two cars, years before he was 16, fixing them up and driving them in empty parking lots, waiting for the day he could hit the road.
Throughout his life he could often be found attending races and classic car shows, always collecting parts to restore his beloved 1964 Corvette Stingray convertible. He loved the family dogs and never missed an opportunity to give a treat. Steve enjoyed sharing his passion for rock music, especially when taking a nice joy ride with no destination in mind.
Steve is survived by his wife, Linda; sons, Devin (Cortney Dunklin) and Cory; brother, Gary (Sally); sister, Jackie (Bob) Geis; and sister-in-law, Cathy Drenoske. He was preceded in death by his parents, Michael and Elizabeth (Simonson) Drenoske; and brother, Michael Drenoske.
A memorial service will be held at GUNDERSON EAST FUNERAL AND CREMATION CARE, 5203 Monona Drive, Madison, at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, April 2, 2024, with a luncheon to follow. A visitation will be held at the funeral home from 4 p.m. until 6 p.m. on Monday, April 1, 2024, and also from 10 a.m. until the time of the service on Tuesday.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be gifted in Steven’s name to Dane County Humane Society, Michael J. Fox Foundation, UW Carbone Cancer Center or Agrace HospiceCare.
Steve was a wonderful man, whose kindness touched everyone around him. He will be deeply missed.
