MADISON - David J.“Dave” Reis, age 66, of Madison, Wis., passed away on Monday, April 3, 2023, at UW Hospital, from complications due to kidney disease. He was born Sept. 22, 1956, to Gilbert “Gibby” and Joyce (Bunch) Reis at St. Mary’s Hospital.
On May 23, 1997, he married his soulmate, Terri (Taylor) Reis.
Dave enjoyed going to baseball games, music concerts and festivals and traveling to islands, Mexico and historic places within the U.S. He was an avid fan of the Badgers (football and basketball), the Packers, the Brewers and the Cubs. He would always say he could like both baseball teams because they used to be in different leagues. He enjoyed a good time with friends and family, hosting many gatherings with Terri at their home.
Dave wore many hats for employment throughout his life. He spent many years bartending at multiple taverns in Madison, his favorite being Arnold’s Breeze Inn (stumble out). He then pursued employment in custom cabinetry and countertop building and installation. This was followed by positions in sterile processing, at UW Health, St. Mary’s and ultimately retiring from Davis Duehr in 2019.
He is survived by his wife, Terri, of 25 years; brother, John (Joan) Bennesh, The Villages, Fla.; sister, Sherry (Loren) Lamphear, McFarland, Wis.; nieces and a nephew, Chelsee (Charlie) Brawner and their children, Shawn (Jon) Lamphear, and Heather (Eric) Groene and their children; in-laws, Mary Stamm and Vicki (Jordan Heideman) Taylor; as well as many cousins and other extended family and friends. He is also survived by his beloved dog, Jimmy. He was preceded in death by his parents; grandparents; father and stepfather in-law; and many aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.
Dave didn’t want a funeral, but instead a “party,” so we will celebrate his life on Saturday, April 15, 2023, from 12 noon until 3 p.m. at GUNDERSON EAST FUNERAL AND CREMATION CARE, 5203 Monona Drive, Madison. Please join us to remember the good times and cherish the memories of a life cut short.

He would want you to come in casual attire and/or your favorite team’s attire. He was a generous person that would have given you his last dollar if you needed it. He will be missed by many.
