Obituary
STOUGHTON, Wis.-It is with great sadness we announce the journey of Joan Irene Koconis was completed in Stoughton, Wis., on March 31, 2023, at age 78. She was born on July 6, 1944, in Waukesha, Wis., the daughter of Albert “Bud” and Janet Knoebel. Joan was the second oldest of five siblings, Keith Knoebel, Sue Brooker, Charles Knoebel and Kathleen Dickow.
Joan attended Waukesha South High School where she gained lifelong skills such as bookkeeping and clerical work. After graduation, she married and traveled for many years across the country making lifelong friends. Joan took a vacation to Knox, Ind., where she planted her roots and raised her family. She had two sons, Andrew (Erica), who have two girls, and Kevin (Gena), who have a daughter, Kenzee (Jamison), who are expecting their first child, (Maeson Joans Koconis-Clouse).
Joan will be remembered by sons, Tony (Stacy, Justin), daughters Dixie (Seabass) and by many who knew her as granny, sister, teacher/instructor, co-worker, family and best friend. She will be remembered for her many crotched blankets, pigs, purses, baby cloths, anything she made with her hands or sewing machine, reading many books, putting puzzles together, and mostly her cooking, which always had the house filled with family. Joan will be remembered as head of transportation at Head Start, a woman who loved bingo and playing cards. She was a person who gave good advice and most importantly, she knew how to teach right from wrong. Joan will be remembered at Stoughton Meadows and by many who knew Joan.
