MOUNT HOREB - Sara Elizabeth Kittleson, age 86, of Mount Horeb, passed away on Monday, December 15, 2025. She was born on June 22, 1939, in Preston, Minn., the daughter of Ted and Edrie Severson.
Sara graduated from Preston High School in 1956 and Luther College in 1959. She was united in marriage to Kendall Kittleson on December 17, 1960, in Preston, Minn.
Sara worked as a teacher for her entire career. She began in Beloit, later moved to Evansville, and spent most of her time in the Mount Horeb Area School District. She was always thoughtful and had a calming presence. Many of Sara’s students had reached out and let her know she was a memorable and impactful teacher.
Sara enjoyed being a part of Wild Women, a group of women who gathered up north in a cabin every year. They would play cards, shop and share meals together. One year the men decided to come, and the women were NOT happy! The Wild Women even had boat/trailer parked across the road saying, “Wild Women Only!” Sara’s faith was central to her life, guiding her both personally and within her community. She was a devoted member of the Mount Horeb Evangelical Lutheran Church. During Bible study at the church, she often gave perspectives on difficult themes. She also held an active role in Rebecca’s Circle for all the years they were at the ELC.
Sara had many friends at the church who would drive her to and from dialysis appointments three times a week for several years. They all agree that she will be dearly missed and lovingly remembered for her quiet strength, grace, and unwavering kindness. Despite life’s many challenges, she faced each day with resilience, a gentle sense of humor, and rarely a complaint. She formed deep connections with those around her-whether through time spent on drives to appointments, reminiscing about her Minnesota roots, or simple conversations that brought comfort and laughter. Sara was a beautiful soul whose warmth touched many lives, and her love and devotion to Kendall were evident to all.
Sara is survived by husband, Kendall; son, Craig (Kerrie) Kittleson; sisters, Dorothy, Phyllis and Janice; brother, Richard; grandson, Isaac Kittleson and Tyler (fiancée, Andora) Kittleson; and sisters-in-law, Delores and Cheryl. She was preceded in death by her parents; son, Scott; grandson, Lucas Kittleson; and sister-in-law, Rosie.
A memorial service will be held at MOUNT HOREB EVANGELICAL LUTHERAN CHURCH, 315 E. Main St., Mount Horeb, at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, December 23, 2025, with Pastor Karen Hofstad presiding, followed by a luncheon at the church. Visitation will be held at the church from 9 a.m. until the time of the service on Tuesday. Burial will take place at Mount Horeb Union Cemetery at a later date.
The family would like to extend their heartfelt thanks to Helen Kahl, who graciously organized, and to all those who helped transport Sara to and from Dodgeville Hospital for dialysis over the years. Your generosity and dedication will always be remembered. A special expression of gratitude is also given to Sarah Jacobson-like a daughter to Kendall and Sara-as well as caregivers Kristen Gilbertson, Aly, Sara, Rae, Kelly, Lux, Skylaar and Hannah. Your care, compassion, and unwavering support meant so much to Sara and her family, bringing comfort and strength during challenging times.
