Obituary

OREGON - Lisa Ann Unertl, (nee Krentz), 59, passed away on April 1, 2023, at Agrace HospiceCare in Fitchburg, Wis., due to complications from pancreatic cancer. She was born on Dec. 13, 1963, in St. Croix Falls, Wis., to Jack and Kay Krentz.

Lisa grew up in Frederic, Wis., Grantsburg, Wis., and Springfield, Minn. She graduated from Frederic High School in Frederic, Wis., in 1982 and Concordia College in St. Paul, Minn., with a Liberal Arts Degree in 1986. Lisa married John Joseph Unertl in 1994 in Stoughton, Wis. They were happily married for 28 years. She worked as a Christian pre-school teacher for 35 years teaching at Campus for Kids in Madison, at home, and Little Angels in Oregon, Wis. She dearly loved every child in her classes through the years and thought of them as her own - providing a positive influence for more than 700 kids. It was not uncommon for a former student or parent to stop her on her walks or bike rides to say how much they appreciated her.

Lisa loved scrapbooking, theatre, music (singing and flute), gardening, baking, nature, hiking, biking, and the nearly lost art of writing letters. She sang in many church and college choirs and donated her time to church and community theatre - whether it was working in the nursery, bible study, baking cookies or performing on stage. She loved hosting gatherings and treating her friends to engaging conversation and making sure each guest felt special with a parting gift bag.

Lisa is survived by her husband, John Unertl of Oregon, Wis.; son, John Unertl IV of Oregon, Wis.; mother, Kay Krentz of Hertel, Wis.; sister, Susie (Lowell) Ackerman of Oakdale, Minn.; brother, Joel Krentz of Hertel, Wis., brother and sisters-in-law, Denise (Paul) Hansen of Oconomowoc, Wis., Daniel (Michele) Unertl of Pewaukee, Wis., and Patrick (Kristin) Unertl of Watertown, Wis.; and cousins, nieces and nephews and other relatives. Lisa was preceded in death by her father, Jack Krentz; and mother-in-law, Dorothy Unertl.

A team, Rally for Lisa, has been established to honor Lisa during the PurpleStride Walk on Saturday, April 29, 2023. Registration to participate on her team is free. http://support.pancan.org/goto/john_unertl.

I was fortunate to work with Lisa and always appreciated how special she made children feel. She had a true interest in people. She enjoyed sharing stories of her childhood with her students. Lisa will be missed.
