Robert John "Bob" Greiber

MIDDLETON - Robert J. Greiber, age 88, passed away on Saturday, April 15, 2023.  A private Mass of Christian Burial will be held at ST. BERNARD CATHOLIC CHURCH, 7450 University Ave., Middleton, at 10 a.m. on Thursday, April 20, 2023, with the Rev. Brian Wilk officiating.  A public visitation will be at the church from 9:30 a.m. - 10 a.m., immediately preceding the Mass.

Bob was born to parents, Mary (Diebold) and Clarence Greiber, and lived most of his life in the Madison area.  He attended Blessed Sacrament Grade School and then Edgewood High School, where he played on the school’s first golf team, the basketball team and where he co-captained the track team in his senior year. Bob graduated from the University of Wisconsin-Madison in 1959 with a B.S. in Economics.  His studies at the UW were delayed for two years, when he served from 1954 to 1956, with the U.S. Army in Tokyo, Japan, after the Korean War.  He was a lifelong student of the financial markets and worked as an investment broker for more than 30 years.  In his evenings, he taught a Basic Investments class for more than 20 years.  

Bob enjoyed attending sporting events with family members, catching numerous UW football, hockey, and basketball games, some quite historical, both home and away.  He was able to go to three Rose Bowls, two Final Four championships, and many professional and amateur golf tournaments.  He served as President of the Madison Youth Football League from 1976-1978.  

Bob loved playing golf, and began playing at age 10.  He made a hole-in-one in 1999, at age 65, and shot a 75 in the Wisconsin Men’s State Amateur in 1954.  He visited some of the most beautiful and challenging golf courses in the world, including Pebble Beach Golf Links and Spyglass Hill, and the Old Course of St. Andrews, on a golf trip to Scotland and Ireland.  Bob made many lifelong friends on and off the golf course.  In recent years, he enjoyed mall walking and visits to local libraries, and fitness clubs, even after he started using a mobile walker.  He fought health issues in recent years, battling non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma and congestive heart failure.  

Bob was preceded in death by an infant sister, Mary Jane; and an infant brother, Richard Allen.  He is survived by his loving wife of 65 years, Susanne (Holm); his daughter, Bridget; his son, Richard (Cheryl); and grandson, Jack.
