Obituary

OREGON - Jon Richard Alii Kai Moyer, age 57, of Oregon, passed away on Thursday, March 30, 2023. He was born on Aug. 9, 1965, in Honolulu, Hawaii, the son of Melvin Moyer and Willardene "Martha" (Kahanu) Moyer. Jon was raised in Iowa and South Dakota. He graduated from high school in Pierre, S.D. in 1983, then went to the University of South Dakota, where he earned a B. A. in Theoretical Physics in 1987.

Jon moved to Madison in 1992, where he started in the utility industry. Here he met Jennifer, the mother of his children. Jon lived for his family. He adored his children and loved talking about them to anyone who would listen. As a very giving and caring person he would do anything for anyone. Strong willed and very passionate, he could be gruff on the outside, but his heart was always in the right place.

In his free time, Jon enjoyed rugby and snowboarding. He participated in the Iron Man competition multiple times. Jon was an excellent cook and a huge foodie. He was a big traveler and loved to see the world; he also wanted to make sure his children saw the world. There was no place like Hawaii to Jon!

Jon is survived by his daughter, Melia Moyer; son, Kanoa Moyer; former wife, Jennifer Moyer; brothers, Bill (Michele) Cheek and Bryan "Butch" Cheek; sisters, Robin Cheek and Michelle (Jay) Parker; father, Melvin Moyer; and girlfriend, Kimberly Walker. He was preceded in death by his mother, Willardene "Martha” Moyer.

I only knew Jon through the rugby community for a short time, but because of who he was, it seemed like I’d known him forever. | Mahalo iā ʻoe no nā mea a pau āu i hāʻawi mai ai iā mākou Alii Kai.
