Gary R Kamin
January 23, 1951 - March 28, 2023
Obituary
STOUGHTON - Gary R. Kamin - devoted husband, father of two, and friend of many - passed away peacefully surrounded by his family, on March 28, 2023, in his Stoughton, Wis., home. He was preceded in death by his parents, Bennie and Maryann; and nephews, Joey and Michael. He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Sally (Lesperance); their daughters, Amy Kamin (partner, Eric Schneider) and Chris Kamin (wife, Jacqueline); and two grandchildren, Ari and Octavia (Tavi), who affectionately called him “Papa”. He is also survived by his brother, Mike (wife, Brenda) and their son, Jamie; several in-laws and many that called him Uncle Gary, all who have a story to tell of his shenanigans.
Gary was born on Jan. 23, 1951, in Marinette and resided in Menominee, Mich. After serving our country in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War, he worked at Marinette Marine for 20 years. In 2013, he retired from LE Jones and relocated from Marinette to Stoughton, where he and Sally could be closer to their children and grandchildren.
Through the years, Gary was an avid fisherman, no matter the season. He was a jack-of-all trades, fixing anything that landed in his garage, and lending a hand or offering his mechanical skills to all. Gary loved animals and would endlessly share treats with not only his own dogs, but any dog in his vicinity. His children will fondly remember days of their youth when “Dad” was in charge, making them snack n’ cakes, pudding and fudge while they watched Dukes of Hazard. Gary especially loved weekly supper club dates with his wife to find the best fish in Wisconsin - even though many referred to him as a “fish fry master.” Gary was quick to make himself and others laugh - often asking his grandchildren “You know what I herd?” only to to answer with a menagerie of farm animals.
Gary’s family is forever grateful to friends and family that gave invaluable support and love in Gary’s last months. Honoring Gary’s request and in lieu of traditional memorial services, there will be a celebratory gathering later this summer; details to be shared in coming months.
