Obituary

MADISON - Juliana Noel Epstein, age 24, of Madison, left us in the early morning hours on Monday, March 20, 2023, surrounded by her loving family at UW Hospital, after a battle with cancer. She was born in Bucharest, Romania, on July 19, 1998, and was adopted on Feb. 14, 2000, by Richard and Jacqueline (Femrite) Epstein.


As a child she was a smiley, giggly little girl who loved to give big open mouth kisses. She made numerous friends in her school years and graduated from Memorial High School in 2016 and then went on to the University of Minnesota-Duluth and became a proud Bulldog. She graduated in 2019, with a bachelor’s degree after only three years. She worked as a contact tracer for the State of Wisconsin Department of Health Services and a client service specialist at Ruffin’ it Resort.


Juliana will be remembered as a treasured daughter, a great friend and a person with passion to make the world a better place. Her heart of gold will continue to beat in the hearts of all the lives she touched.


Juliana is survived by her parents; Jacqueline and Richard; aunts, Terri (Randy) Tuggle and Patricia (Timothy) Kraus; uncle, Donald (Lisa) Femrite; grandfather, Theodore Femrite; many cousins, special friends, Zach, Ashley, Ozzy, Sam, Marianne, Katie and numerous others as well as her loyal dog Hamilton.  She was preceded in death by her maternal grandmother, Betty Femrite; paternal grandparents, M. Jack (Frieda) Epstein; and uncle, Joel Epstein.


A funeral service will be held at GUNDERSON EAST FUNERAL AND CREMATION CARE, 5203 Monona Drive, Madison, at 11 a.m. on Saturday, March 25, 2023. Burial will be held at Roselawn Memorial Park. Visitation will be held at the funeral home from 9 a.m. until the time of the service on Saturday.

My condolences to Juliana's family. Juliana was a very gifted young women who I have had the privilege of knowing through her work on my team for the past 2 years. She helped countless people through the pandemic and was an amazing mentor to her colleauges. Rest in peace, Juliana. We miss you.

I’m so very sad to hear that Juliana recently passed away. I knew her in college, as she was a member of Student Advocates for Choice, MPIRG, and University Honors. She was a kind soul who cared deeply about social issues affecting our communities. May she rest in peace.

I’ve known Juliana since high school but we’ve only been friends since we started at uhaul together in 2019. I always thought it was funny how customers would always confuse us with each other even though we only looked alike from behind. One of my favorite uhaul memories was when she got up on a ladder and I held the power washer and we tried to wash the “crack spiders” off the old garage. Those crack spiders are probably still there. Every week was so much fun doing discord together. It really became the highlights of my week for a long time. You were one of the first people that encouraged me to get out of my toxic situation and I’m so grateful for that. I just wished I could have helped you more in the early days. I’m gonna miss hearing “juju, juju” to the theme of jaws in among us. It’s not gonna be the same without you.

Juliana trained me at Ruffin’ It when I first got a job there. I had just moved to Madison in the middle of lockdown and i didn’t really know anyone. I looked forward to going to work and getting to chat with her and work alongside her. From the first moment she was kind and funny and welcoming. She was a hard-worker, and incredibly intelligent and caring. Thank you Juliana for being a good friend to me, even if we weren’t super close. I hope you are at peace, and I will keep you in my heart. I am sending so much love to your family and loved ones. Rest easy.

A beautiful heart gone too soon. I remember when this beautiful baby was adopted by Jackie and her husband. So much excitement. She was gifted to have very loving parents. My condolences to the family Georgia Morgan

I'm sending Condolences And Prayers to Juliana's Family and Friends and Hamilton. Juliana was a valued member of our Contact Tracing Team at DHS. She was a great Team Mentor and always had insightful things to say and found ways to help us. Juliana was a great work colleague and team member and she will be sorely missed.
