Obituary

WAUNAKEE - Dorothy Elaine (Paske) Christofferson, age 94, of Waunakee, passed away on Sunday, March 26, 2023, at St. Mary's Hospital. She was born on April 10, 1928, in Columbia County, Wis., the daughter of Arthur Julius Paske and Helena (Koepp) Paske Burnson.


Dorothy graduated from Portage High School in 1947 and received post high school certifications and completed course work. She was united in marriage to William Edward Christofferson on Feb. 19, 1949, in Dubuque, Iowa.  Dorothy worked at Verex, Dairy Equipment Company, Wisco Hardware and Oscar Mayer which included positions in accounting and bookkeeping to underwriting and auditing review. She retired in 1983.


Dorothy enjoyed golfing, bowling, traveling and especially spending time with family and friends.


Dorothy is survived by her daughters, Dorothy (Dennis) Henning of Prosper, Texas, Pamela (Joseph) Endres of Dane, Wis., and Janet (Joseph) Collins of Lincoln, Ala.; grandchildren, Angela (Scott) Houghton, Rebecca (Damon) Marra, Stefan (Kelli) Endres, Melanie (Judd) Fowler and Michael (Constance) Collins; seven great-grandchildren; sisters, Beverly Schultz, Mae Smith, and Joan Paske; as well as numerous nieces and nephews, including Mary Lou Lathrop for whom she and Bill were guardians.


She was preceded in death by her loving husband, William; daughter, Betty Jane Christofferson; grandson, Christopher Endres; parents, Arthur and Helena; siblings, Arthur Paske, Lucille (Devine) Ellis, Emma Seymour, Herman Paske and Rosemary Kluever; niece, Ellen Cuthbert for whom she and Bill were guardian; as well as beloved sisters and brothers-in-law.


A funeral service will be held at GUNDERSON EAST FUNERAL AND CREMATION CARE, 5203 Monona Drive, Madison, at 11 a.m. on Thursday, March 30, 2023, with the Rev. Jerry Amstutz presiding. Entombment will be at Roselawn Memorial Park. Visitation will be held at the funeral home from 10 a.m. until the time of the service on Thursday.

Janet and Joe did such a great job on a poolside picnic to introduce some of us to Dorothy when she stayed in Alabama during Covid. What a treat it was to get to know her and spend quality time relaxing! My heart is with each family member who loved Dorothy and who will miss her. My prayers of comfort continue as you say goodbye.

I will never forget my time camping at the Behnke land. Your parents always stopped by with great stories. Will never forget manhootners with your Dad. Both your parents were lovely people. I have such lovely memories of Dorothy and Bill. I always enjoyed any time spent with them. So many excellent meals following excellent cocktails courtesy of these master entertainers. Dorothy was such a kind and pleasant lady, giving me a warm welcome into her Waunakee condo for an enjoyable visit many years after last seeing her. That spirit hadn’t changed from when I first met her and the family nearly 50 years ago through their daughter and special friend, Janet. And Dorothy together with Bill?…what a hoot.
