Obituary
The matriarch of the family, Jean Eileen (Ness) Wilcox passed away on Saturday, March 11, 2023, at the age of 95. Jean was born on Aug. 1, 1927, in Madison, Wis., to parents, Albert and Mildred (Arnold) Ness. She married Elwood Vincent in 1946 and had four children: Kathleen, Robert, James and Jeanne. In 1976, Jean would marry the love of her life, Roderick Wilcox. She enjoyed traveling in her 5th wheeler with her family, camping in the mountains, and also road trips with her husband on their Harley Davidson motorcycles.
Jean was a Deputy Sheriff for over 20 years and retired in 1987. She loved listening to Willie Nelson and Patsy Cline, watching Western movies, and cheering on the Milwaukee Brewers. She also loved playing Scrabble and remodeling her home with her son, James. Jean and Rod played a big role in her daughter Jeanne’s children’s lives, helping care for Paolina, Gina and Dylan, making their house a second home.
After the passing of her husband, Rod, Jean adopted a doggy companion, Bugsy, which the whole family adored. Everyone knew where Jean lived, as her famous statue of Daisy the cow was always proudly displayed out front. Jean adored children and enjoyed her visits with great-grandchildren, Gianna, Dominic, Stella and Arielle.
Jean was preceded in death by her parents, Albert and Mildred Ness; sister and brother-in-law, Evelyn and Delmar Deering; daughter, Kathleen Hommen; husband, Rodrick Wilcox; granddaughter, Kathrine Noftle; and grandson, Dylan Malagold. She is survived by her son, Robert (Judy) Vincent; son, James Vincent; and loving daughter, Jeanne (Sergio) Malagold; grandchildren, Paolina (Jared) Goodson, Gina (Tomas) Carranza, Robert Hommen, Barbara Hommen, Judy Hommen, Brandon Vincent and his mother, Sandy; great-grandchildren, Faith, Blake, Jacob, Jessica, Katelyn, Amber, Stella, Gianna, Dominic and Arielle; and many more family members.
Jean was “the boss” of all of us. She was Leo the lion and greatly respected by everyone. The grandkids will miss using their favorite line, “I’m going to tell Grandma.” A private gathering will be held at a later date. Online condolences may be made at www.gundersonfh.com.
