Alyce Catherine Adkison

DeForest - Alyce Adkison, age 97, passed away on Tuesday, August 26, 2025, at Legacy in DeForest.

She was born Alyce Catherine Cullen on November 12, 1927, in Madison. The daughter of Marion and Margaret (née Ray) Cullen, Alyce was a 1946 graduate of East High School and remained a proud Eastsider her entire life. She was a dedicated member of that community, volunteering each election day as a poll worker. She was a long-time member of Holy Cross Lutheran Church.

On a blind date in 1948, she met her husband, Cliff. They married July 15, 1950, and had two children, Linda (Harold) Netzloff and Gary (Jean) Adkison.

Following Cliff's death in 1976, Alyce worked in the kitchen at the Memorial Union until her retirement in 1992. She took great pride in her time working at the Terrace, as well as at UW sporting events, especially basketball and football.

Alyce loved to be around people. No one was ever a stranger to Alyce, just a friend she hadn’t met yet. She hosted parties for family, friends and neighbors. She didn't ever need a reason. She truly enjoyed their company, conversation and cooking good food for them. Meals at Alyce's house were events, and everyone knew they would be leaving with leftovers. An avid card and dice player, Alyce loved to visit the occasional casino as often as possible. She made sure that she shared that love with her family and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband and son, as well as her brother, Dick Cullen; sister, Pat Torres; and special friends, Karen Adkison and Victor Bols.

She is survived by her daughter, Linda; son-in-law, Harold; grandsons, Andrew (Martha) Netzloff and Tim (Stacy) Netzloff; and great-grandchildren, Olivia, Hailee and Calvin. She is further survived by nieces, nephews, and countless friends and relatives who will all miss her dearly.

A funeral service will be held at Gunderson East Funeral and Cremation Care, 5203 Monona Drive, Madison, at 11 a.m. on Monday, September 8, 2025, with the Rev. Piet Van Kampen presiding. Burial will be held at Roselawn Memorial Park. Visitation will be held at the funeral home from 10 a.m. until the time of the service on Monday.
