COTTAGE GROVE - Ethel Esther (Schlueter) Coppernoll, age 93, of Cottage Grove, passed away on Saturday, February 15, 2025, at Drumlin Reserve. She was born on March 24, 1931, in Deerfield, to Arthur C. and Esther E. (Gerstner) Schlueter.
Ethel attended Oak Park Grade School for eight years and graduated from Deerfield Highschool in 1949. She married Arnie L. Halverson in 1951, and they had two daughters, Diane and Lori, before divorcing in 1966. She then married Ralph Coppernoll in 1969, and they were together until his passing on March 3, 1996.
Ethel was last employed at Covance before retiring on May 3, 1996.
Ethel is survived by her daughters, Diane (Norman) Schmelzer and Lori Wolf; stepchildren, Robert, Richard, Randy, and Gail; grandchildren, Tara (Doug) Heimerl, Andrew (Heidi) Schmelzer and Melissa (Bob) Waller; great-grandchildren, Ashley and Tyler Schmelzer, Henry, Samuel and Sophia Heimerl and Colton and Ashlyn Waller; and several step-grandchildren and step-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Esther and Arthur; husband, Ralph Coppernoll; brother, Howard; sister and brother-in-law, Irene and Alvin Grossman; brother and sister-in-law, Ralph and Delores; a brother who died in infancy, Jack; and stepsons, Ralph “Pat” and Ronnie Coppernoll.
A graveside service will be held at ROSELAWN MEMORIAL PARK, 401 Femrite Drive, Monona, at 1 p.m. on Monday, February 24, 2025. Burial will be held at Roselawn Memorial Park.
