Mark Dybevik

MADISON - Mark Ryan Dybevik, age 38, passed away peacefully at home, surrounded by his family and his companion dog, Roscoe, on Sunday, March 5, 2023. He was born on Sept. 14, 1984, in Madison, Wis., the son of Ken and Doreen (O’Kroley) Dybevik.

Mark was diagnosed with a malignant brain tumor at age 5 and was brave and a fighter his whole life surviving multiple brain surgeries, falls, physical disabilities and seizures as a result of his clinical trial radiation treatments that cured his cancer as a child.

Mark graduated from LaFollette High School in 2003. He was the proud owner of an Amazon online business called Forgotten Books and Treasures where he sold used books and other items. He started this business in high school special education as a way to recycle and sell discarded used books from libraries and garage sales and continued his business until his passing.  Mark also worked various part-time jobs over the years at Café Soleil, Mad Town Munchies, Savers and Palace Theatre. Embracing his disabilities, Mark participated in bowling and bocce ball including earning several medals at the Special Olympics State tournament. Mark also enjoyed swimming in our backyard pool, the YMCA and Lapham heated pool. Mark was a loyal supporter of his brothers, Scott and Jonathan’s sports, traveling with his parents to many games, tournaments, and championships. He also was an avid Packers fan watching their games, collecting photos and memorabilia. He also got to tour Lambeau field. Mark also enjoyed playing cards especially Dirty Clubs. He enjoyed family gatherings, field trips, traveling to many destinations and camping with his family especially at Silver Springs Campground. Mark never missed watching Wheel of Fortune and enjoyed comedy and adventure movies and listening to music.

Mark is survived by his parents, Ken and Doreen Dybevik; his twin brother, Scott Dybevik (Char Huffer); a younger brother, Jonathan (Hallie) Dybevik; twin nieces, Addison and Brooklyn; grandmother, Jane O’Kroley; aunts, Linda O’Kroley, Sandra (Sandy) McKerroll and Dawn O’Kroley; uncles, Arthur Krause, Colin O’Kroley, Doug O’Kroley, Dennis (Malay) O’Kroley; great-uncle, David O’Kroley; many other relatives and special bowling friends, Sam, Randy and Tony.

Mark was preceded in death by his grandparents, Ken and Isabel Dybevik; grandfather, Richard O’Kroley; godfather and uncle, Christopher C. O’Kroley; and cousin, Jonathan McNamara.

A service will be held at GUNDERSON EAST FUNERAL AND CREMATION CARE, 5203 Monona Drive, Madison, at 5 p.m. on Friday, March 10, 2023. Visitation will be held at the funeral home from 3 p.m. until the time of the service on Friday. Private burial will take place at Highland Memory Gardens.

The family wishes to thank the staff of SSM Health Neuroscience, Endocrinology, Oncology, Internal Medicine and UW Health for their medical care over the years, Mark’s support staff Alexi O’Sullivan, Marcia Meyers, Becky Rickabaugh, Liz Hill and Shan Bocklund, and his many respite providers including Jenna, Wes, Michael, Adam and others for all of their wonderful support given to Mark and his family. Finally, much appreciation to all the friends, neighbors and family that donated books to Mark’s business.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Ronald McDonald House Charities of Madison and Wisconsin Special Olympics.

Gone But Not Forgotten

A precious one from us has gone, A voice we loved has stilled. A place is vacant in our home, which never can be filled. God in His wisdom has recalled, The boon His love has given, And though the body slumbers here, The soul is safe in Heaven.
