OREGON - James "Jim" Kenneth Babcock, beloved husband, father, brother, and friend, passed away on Tuesday, Feb. 28, 2023, surrounded by loved ones. He was 78, born on June 26, 1944, in Belleville, Ill. His parents were Kenneth and Marie “Bernice” (Elmer) Babcock of Maple, Wis. Jim graduated from Northwestern High school in 1962 and was proud to have served in the U.S. Navy during the Vietnam War. Jim married Susan Mallory on Feb. 10, 2005. He worked as a steamfitter for 30 years, retiring from Alliant Energy in 2005.
Jim was a hardworking, kind, genuine and loving man. He was a romantic at heart and treasured and adored his wife, Sue. Jim was known for his quick-witted sense of humor and cheerful, easy-going nature. He was always helping a friend, family member or neighbor by repairing anything that was broken, and he took much pride in his work.
Jim was quite passionate about fishing his entire life and had an impressive collection of fishing lures. He enjoyed summering up at Castle Rock Resort for many years, making long lasting friendships.
Jim is survived by his wife, Susan; daughters, Jennette Andrews, Wendy (Jonathan) Bilse and Kim (Sami) Walker; stepdaughters, Sandy (Lisa) Blumer and Christine Mallory; son, Michael (Katie) Scanland; stepson, Dan (Nicole) Blumer; grandchildren, Gloria, James, Devin, Ezekiel, Hannah, Kyle, Thomas, Helaina and Presley; great-grandchildren, Ronan and Ryder; sisters, Barbara (Tom) Bilger and Mary (Peter) Calhoun; and brothers, Alan (Lynne) Babcock and Bob (Suzie) Babcock. He was preceded in death by his parents; stepson, Ronald Blumer; and brother, Robert Babcock.
A celebration of life will be held at a later date.
