I am so sorry to learn of Bob's passing and am sending condolences to his entire family. He and Patti were such a memorable part of my childhood, as were Shelagh, Cherie and Schoen.

I worked with Bob at SLH. He was the essential Wisconsin guy and it’s shown in the wonderful story above. He told me he liked the way I pronounced his last name. I am so sorry for your loss and grateful to have known him.

Bob hired me in 1984 and I worked with him until his retirement in 1996. I can still hear his deep, calm and reassuring voice, whether he was giving guidance to someone over the phone or working with one of his staff. Bob ran a tight ship but was a very warm and inclusive person. Almost every Friday when the weather was nice, Bob would welcome all of his staff to join him for lunch and he would lead our group on a short walk to one of the local eateries on campus. We'd enjoy a lunch filled with Bob's storytelling, some teasing and lots of laughter. I remember always returning to work on those Friday afternoons in fine spirits. Then, when it was almost time for staff to leave for the weekend, Bob would get up from his desk, venture out to his large laboratory, and make a point of quickly visiting each and every employee to share a nice word or laugh and to wish them a good weekend. Laughter would echo through the lab at the close of each visit Bob made to the staff in their work areas. I've since finished my own 37-year career from the State Lab of Hygiene and will keep with me many fond memories of Bob. My thoughts and prayers are with Bob's family.

I would like to offer condolences from the Yellow Thunder snowmobile club. As recent additions to our group of landowners, we really appreciate your permission to cross your lands (especially when we actually get snow). We hope that we have been good stewards of the property. Best wishes from the club membership in your time of loss. Chris Garber Secretary.
