I used to be an Oregon student who proudly rode on bus 8 that was driven by the legendary Dan. I first met Dan on my first day of 5th grade and rode with him up until my senior year of high school. I’ll remember so many amazing/ funny stories he told me (mainly about bowling, Willie the duck and his family) while I sat behind the drivers seat and the kindness he would give to anyone/ everyone especially me, there is too many great memories and conversations I’ve had with him that would be simply too long to type so I’ll keep it short by saying, thank you so much Dan for everything you’ve given me and just simply being a friend to talk too, you will be deeply missed by me and many others. I love you Dan, Love Mya K.

Lucky me, I graduated with Dan. He always had a smile and a laugh for everyone. When my dad was 85 years old and we were driving back from the Oregon Sportsmen’s Club (OSC). We saw a large male pheasant fly across the road during the season. It landed in a fence row on Dan’s property. So, we stopped and talked to Dan about the hay and corn crops. We asked if we could attempt to get that rooster. Dan laughed and said yes. So, we went down the fence row. We both said that probably ran when it landed. Just then, that rooster jetted out of the brush. My dad hit it . It was huge 23.5” tail feather and the colors flash off the head and body feathers. So, after shooting it, we stopped to give it Dan. He would have none of that. He told us to eat it and lift a beer to him. How could you argue? Both Dan and my father were happy. I was just back in Oregon last week. On the way to the OSC on Thursday night. We both thanked Dan for being so generous as we passed his farm. My dad is now 91 years old. Ironically, that rooster is the last one that he shot and enjoyed as a meal. God Bless you Dan for this and many other memories that I should not share. Why? Dan was often near the center of pranks at school but no teacher could prove it. Even Ms. B., (Mini Brute) the Home Economics teacher was unable to catch him. Although, she did try. To the Elmer family. My Deepest sympathies. Dan was a great friend. We had so many great times and great laughs especially when we were bowling. We bowled a lot of tournaments together. He was a wonderful man. He did so many things for so many people. Elmo will truly be missed. For those who were fortunate enough to know him he can't be replaced. Thanks for the great times. Sincerely, Jim Snow.
