LODI - Erwin Warren “Erv” Luckmann, age 70, of Lodi, unexpectedly passed away on Friday, Feb. 17, 2023, at UW Hospital. He was born on July 18, 1952, in Milwaukee, Wis., the son of Warren and Emma (Shelgren) Luckmann.


Erv graduated from Wisconsin Lutheran High School in Milwaukee and from the Milwaukee School of Engineering with a bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering. Erv enjoyed a long career creating codes for industrial laundries to ensure they ran smoothly. He could fix any problems that arose. Through his work and travels, Erv met and maintained life-long friendships.


Erv had many talents and abilities. He was an extremely gifted woodworker, creating many unique and fun projects for family and friends, especially grandchildren. Some of his projects included functional forklifts, ferris wheels, cribbage boards, rocking chairs, doll houses, butcher block counter tops and many practical household goods. Every project that he touched was completed to perfection. Erv also enjoyed traveling, fishing and boating. He was a loving and caring man who was generous with his time and talents. Erv lived a very rich life and was highly respected. His zest for life was contagious and he will be sorely missed by all who loved him.


Erv is survived by his wife, Mary; sons, Geoffrey (Amy) Luckmann, Matthew (Ann) Luckmann, and Christopher (Michelle) Luckmann; grandchildren, Emma, Donald, Alina, Gunther, Dietrich, Ellie and Harper; and sister, Cynthia (John) Ewers. He was preceded in death by his father, Warren Erwin Luckmann; and mother, Emma May Krumnow.

Erv, I will miss seeing you out and about. You & Mary were and are my favorite customers! I have fond memories of conversations and thoughtful gifts from you. The latest was a wooden trolly train, made by you and Mary, for our newborn. I am incredibly sad she will never get to meet you, but I’ll be sure to introduce her to Mary and let he know who made the sweet gift she’s sure to play with. Rest in peace, Erv. You’ll be missed by many.

We will always remember Erv as “One of the good guys” I remember working with Erv at Jack’s side by side and we always knew exactly what the other one was thinking. I knew I could always count on him. We have many memories of him and our young families. I remember the boys drinking all coffee creamers at the restaurant. He will be truly missed.
