Nancy Lou Hanson

MADISON - It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Nancy Lou Hanson on October 23, 2024, at the age of 80. Nancy was born on January 10, 1944, in Madison, WI to Ruth and Harold Koerner and grew up in the Frank Allis/Monona area. She graduated from Monona Grove High School in 1962.

Nancy was the beloved wife of Harry Hanson, with whom she shared 58 wonderful years of marriage. The couple moved to Sussex in the early 1970s and settled in McFarland in 1975, where they built a beautiful life together.

She was the devoted mother of Tammy Bartels and Wendy Andrew, and cherished mother-in-law to Brian Bartels and Ray Andrew. She was a proud and loving grandmother to her grandsons Nathan, Roman, and Max and granddaughter Nicole, who were the light of her life.

Nancy is also survived by her sisters Joann Larson, Jeanne (Paul) Tiedeman, and Judie (Norm) Muth, as well as her sister-in-law Dianne (Don) Rines. She leaves behind many nieces, nephews, and countless other family members and friends who adored her.

She is preceded in death by her parents Harold and Ruth Koerner, her in-laws Jerome and Vera Hanson, her brother-in-law Ron Larson, and her sister-in-law Donna Hanson.

Nancy made many dear friends in McFarland through Harry’s slow-pitch softball teams, the local snowmobile club, and their boating group. She was known for organizing her high school class reunions and was the key coordinator for many family garage sales. Her bookkeeping and organizational skills were exceptional, and she was admired for her ability to bring people together. Nancy had an eye for beauty, always growing the most stunning flowers in her garden, a reflection of her green thumb and attention to detail.

Nancy's greatest purpose and joy in life was being an incredible wife, mother, grandmother, and sister. She loved nothing more than caring for her family, and her happiest moments were spent attending her grandchildren's events, traveling to warm, sandy beaches, and riding on the boat with her husband. Nancy was known for her love of margaritas, line dancing, euchre, shopping, and decorating for every holiday. A woman of style and flair, she took pride in her appearance, always ensuring her hair was perfectly styled and her nails elegantly manicured.

The family would like to extend their heartfelt thanks to the staff at Azura Memory Care in Stoughton and Agrace HospiceCare for the care and compassion they provided to Nancy.

Nancy's bright spirit will be deeply missed, but her love and dedication to her family will live on in the hearts of all who knew her.

A visitation at GUNDERSON EAST FUNERAL AND CREMATION CARE, 5203 Monona Drive, Madison, will be held on Tuesday, October 29, 2024, at 6 p.m. until 7:30 p.m. as well as a visitation on Wednesday, October 30, 2024, that will begin at 10:30 a.m. and go until 12 p.m. with a memorial service to follow.
