Obituary
MADISON - Charles C. "Charlie" Powers was born in Oregon, Wis., on Ground Hog's Day, Feb. 2, 1928, to Clyde and Verdie (Olson) Powers. He said it was so cold he peaked his head out and he went back in.
Charlie joined the U.S. Navy immediately upon graduation from Oregon High School. He served in the Navy in World War II and was recalled to serve in the Korean Conflict. He was very proud of his service and honored the American flag.
Charlie married Delores Handell on Nov. 6, 1948. Together they had four children, William “Bill,” Gene, Bruce and Tammy-Lynn.
His career took him from being an Omar Breadman to sales at Miller-Bradford and Risberg, followed by Scott Construction, Lake Delton and ending with Sherwin Industries, Milwaukee. Always a salesman, never without a joke or a story.
Charlie is survived by his daughter, Tammy-Lynn; sons, Gene (Sue) and Bruce; grandchildren, Derek and Ryan Powers, Sydney (Josh) Hare and Caitlin (Jacob Schkirkie) Powers; great-grandchildren, Emberly Hare, and Tanner and Baylor Schkirkie; former daughter-in-law (Caitlin's Mom), Christine Roschick; and sisters, Mary Tofte and Doris Schnabel.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Delores; son, Bill; grandson, Christian Powers; sisters, Helen Kopp, Roberta West and Virginia Schubert; and brother, Harvey.
The family would like to thank Tammy Lynn for all of her loving care of Charlie, his wonderful neighbor Ron Westrum, Darrel Havey who brought communion from St. Dennis weekly, AJ from the VFW whose visits made Charlie's day and to the Agrace Hospice Care staff who were so amazingly helpful at our time of need, especially Allison, Carmen and Lily. We appreciate you all so much. Thank You!
