Obituary

MOUNT HOREB - Edna I “Irene” Bruflat, age 99, of Mount Horeb passed away on Wednesday, Feb. 8, 2023, at Divine Rehabilitation and Nursing in Fennimore, Wis. She was born on Aug. 31, 1923, in Mount Horeb, the daughter of John and Edna (Galarno) Kahl.

Irene graduated from Erbe School. She married Amos Bruflat on June 17, 1945.

Irene was known as Mount Horeb’s Grandma. She was a proud daycare provider for many years and deeply loved the children within her care. She was well known for her card playing skills and you could often find her uptown playing Euchre with her best friend and brother, Wally. If she wasn’t playing cards, she was at the ELC where she volunteered much of her time. Irene was a talented lady who loved to bring smiles to those around her by yodeling and telling jokes. She was a proud Wisconsin sports fan and cheered on the Packers and Badgers with pride. In her younger years, you could find Irene on a bus trip with her beloved husband, Amos, or heading to the cottage up north. Even at the age of 99, she was still young at heart and bringing laughter and smiles to anyone who was lucky enough to meet her. We take comfort in knowing she was reunited in heaven with Amos, her parents, brothers, sisters, and friends.

Irene is survived by her two daughters, Linda (Duane) Kittleson and Lori (Brad) Still; son-in-law, Chris (Marie Olson) Booth; six grandchildren, Ty (Kerrie) Kittleson, Kari (Chad) Addison, Ryan (Sara) Booth, Robyn Booth, Keegan Still, and Allison (Charley) Wessberg; and 11 great-grandchildren, Tanner, Brooke, Emma, Chace, Logan, Christian, Keagan, Faith, Palmer, Eloise, and Raegan. She was preceded in death by her husband, Amos Bruflat; parents, John and Edna Kahl; and her many brothers and sisters.

A funeral service will be held at EVANGELICAL LUTHERAN CHURCH, 315 E. Main St., Mount Horeb, at 11 a.m. on Thursday, Feb. 16, 2023, with Pastor John Twiton presiding. Burial will be held at West Blue Mounds Cemetery. Visitation will be held at the church from 9 a.m. until the time of the service on Thursday.

You are by far one of the greatest people in my life, one of my bestest friends and my heart is so broken you are gone. I will see you again. So please have Phase 10 shuffled and ready to go.

I spent many years of love and joy with this kind person so dear to my heart♥️ There must have been a joyful homecoming in Heaven as the last person of that generation came to be with so many she dearly loved.

My condolences to the family of "Irene" Kahl Bruflat. The first time I saw her, was when she was my first Sunday School teacher at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Mt. Horeb, at which time she also was member. I remember exactly where she was sitting and my mother holding my hand to meet her. Many years later she told me that she was only 15 and was scared at this new venture in her life. At that we both chuckled. What a memory. Valonne Eckel
