Obituary
MADISON - Thomas W "Tom” Keul, age, 60, of Madison passed away on Sunday, Jan. 29, 2023, at his childhood home. He was born on March 11, 1962, in Janesville, the son of Kenneth and Janice (Cook) Keul.
Tom may have been born in Janesville, but he truly lived, and was raised by the Eastside of Madison. Early on his parents instilled in him the traditional Lutheran faith. Not only growing up was Tom just a Hawthorn Park athlete, but he was a part of the Madison youth hockey league and Madison East little league. As he got older, everyone would say Tom was an excellent fighter for someone who never put on the gloves.
Growing up he attended all the local eastside schools where he graduated from East High School in 1980. Tom was a jack of all trades. He worked in many different professions including his first job as a dishwasher at the Golden Dragon. He then worked at Schoep's Ice Cream, Charter Street Power Plant, and finished his career working part-time as a painter under Brad Little.
Some of Tom's proudest moments in his life would be when his son, Taylor Keul, was born, as well as being able to fulfill his promise to his mother, Janice. Along with fulfilling this promise and overcoming his many different health issues, these challenges helped pave the way on his outlook to his religion, on his family, and his newly found love for life. Among these transitions, one thing that always remained the same was his love and compassion for animals. From his childhood dogs to the squirrels he was excited to feed, to his now recent animals: Max, Marley and Ruckus. His animals then provided comfort in his character transformation.
Tom was a simple man who didn't need much, he lived by his golden rule: Faith, Family, and Cannabis. As Tom would say, “Peace out and peace on.”
Thomas is survived by his son, Taylor (Amanda Hamm) Keul; sister, Jennifer (John ) Keul-Whitman; Taylor’s mom, Dina (Jay) Sitts; special aunt, Joan Stockwell; niece and nephews, Jacob, Jared (Sara) and Morgan (Ryan); and other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, Kenneth and Janice; and brothers, Jonathan (Bernadette) and Timmy Keul.
