Obituary

MADISON- Robert J. “Bob” Gamer, age 77, passed away on Wednesday, Jan. 25, 2023, with his family and cat, Enzo, by his side. He was born on June 21, 1945, in Madison, the son of Roy and Frances (Muetz) Gamer.


He graduated from East High School in 1963, and soon after enlisted in the U.S. Army National Guard of Wisconsin. He retired at age 61, from Demco in DeForest, after 41 years.


Robert married Forrelyn Downie on July 17, 1965, becoming known as "Bob and Bunny" or "Bunny and Bob." They shared 57 years of marriage living in both Madison and DeForest, and they had three children.


Known as a proud Minnesota Vikings fan and often called "Viking Bob"- he enjoyed coin collecting, old cars, watching sports, the casino, scratching lottery tickets, puzzles, and spending time with his family!


Robert is survived by his wife, Forrelyn; daughter, Dorene Gamer; sons, Darrin (Jin) Gamer and Chad (Jamie) Gamer; five grandchildren, Tyler, Courtney, Jake, Haydn and Alia; and twin great-granddaughters, Ida Mae and Vivian. He is further survived by sister, Bonnie Minter; brothers, Ron (Pat) Gamer and Larry (Sharon) Gamer; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Beverly Manning; and brother, Richard Gamer Sr.


In lieu of a memorial service, a Celebration of Life will take place at OAKSTONE, 304 Commerce Parkway, Cottage Grove, from 1 p.m. until 3:30 p.m. on Sunday, Feb. 19, 2023. Family and friends are invited to share in Bob's memory.

Bob always treated me like one of his own. Always in a good mood, always giving you a hard time about something and ALWAYS rooting for the Vikings! His smile and positivity was infectious. He will be greatly missed that’s for sure. My condolences to the entire family. Rick Sozio

I knew Bob through Forrie (Bunny). We basically grew up together during our high school years. I remember Bob as being completely enamored and faithful to Forrie. We had lots of fun together in those years. He was such a nice gentle, loving person. I'm glad we stayed in touch through the years. RIP Bob.

One of a kind I wish I had a rewind button, and could bring you back to life. I never wanted the day to come, when I wouldn't be able to see you anymore. It's hard to wake up every morning, knowing that you're not here. My world feels incomplete without you. There's a hole left in me. The pain of losing you; I feel broken.
