Obituary

Edgerton - Timothy Allen Bergum, age 72, of Edgerton, passed away peacefully on Saturday, Jan. 21, 2023, at Agrace HospiceCare. He was born on Sept. 20, 1950, in Monroe, Wis., the son of Ervin Bergum and Hazel “Celia” (Dunn) Bergum.


Timothy graduated from Evansville High School in 1969 where he excelled in athletics and was a multiple letter winner in basketball, football, and track.  Timothy was a starter on the legendary 1969 Conference Championship boys’ basketball team.  In 2022 Timothy along with all his teammates from the 1969 boys’ basketball team were elected as a team into the EHS Athletic Hall of Fame.  Currently Timothy holds the school record for shotput at 52’7” set in 1969.  Timothy received his Associate Degree in Millwrights from MATC while playing basketball for MATC.      


Tim married his Barbara (Durkin) Bergum on Sept. 20, 2007, in Edgerton, Wis. He worked at Deltown Foods of Wisconsin in Belleville from 1971-1985, then enjoyed a career as a mechanic at SSMHC in Madison from 1986-2014, when he retired. In his free time, he enjoyed traveling, photography, hunting, hiking, biking, cross-county skiing, gardening, and spending time in nature, but most of all, being with his family.


Timothy is survived by his loving wife, Barbara; two sons, Jeremy (Amanda) Bergum and Derek Bergum; step-son, Stuart Kowing; step-daughter, Kelly Kowing; grandchildren, Kaylin Bergum, Madelyn Bergum, Brooklyn Bergum, Nathan Medsker and Noah Medsker; brother, Richard “Dick” (Barb) Bergum; sisters-in-law, Bea Bergum, Kay Bergum and Shirley Oftedahl; special nephews (his late brother Bill’s sons), Troy (Shermadine) Bergum, Erik Bergum, Darin (Becky) Bergum and Kevin (Michelle) Bergum; and many other nieces and nephews, who were all special to him and a vast number of extended family and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, John Bergum, Ted Bergum and Bill Bergum; nephews, David Bergum, Jeff Bergum; and niece, Debbie Bergum.


A funeral service will be held at Gunderson Stoughton Funeral AND Cremation Care, 1358 Highway 51 N. at Jackson St., Stoughton, at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Jan. 28, 2023, with Tim’s brother, Dick Bergum, presiding. Visitation will be held at the funeral home from 4 p.m. until 6 p.m. on Friday, Jan. 27, 2023, and from 10 a.m. until the time of the service on Saturday.

I first met Tim with his beloved wife Barb, who is one of my oldest friends. He greeted me with that beautiful smile & warm hug as if we've known each other forever. He was always just so kind.
